My daughter Sarah and I just built and installed a new Peragon bed cover on her 2018 F-150. A little dad / daughter bonding time. I made her read the instructions, turn the wrenches and tweak all the adjustments so she would be familiar enough with it if it needs future tweaking.
I really like the subtle improvements that Peragon has made over the years. For instance, the mounting hardware is better and now there is no drilling. But, overall there was very little need for major improvements.
Sarah is loaded and readying herself for her long trip back to El Paso, Tx.
That’s awesome! How do you like the Peragon? I’m currently looking at various bed covers and the Peragon is one that is toward the top of my list. The things that worry me about it though are: 1) the color black that I’d be putting on my truck getting too hot to touch to open the cover; 2) how much snow and ice it could withstand; 3) we get a lot of hail in SD so I’m wondering how it would stand up to that. The truck looks great. I got pretty much the same truck but in Leadfoot gray with the 5.0L motor.
JDubbya, I put a Peragon on my 6.5ft ‘15 this past March. As you can probably tell, I’m in Montana so snow load was a concern I had also, but the Peragon specs look as good as anything else for handling the weight (unless you’re looking for a serious heavy duty cover—like drive your ATV on it style). That said, I haven’t been through a winter with it yet, so we’ll see. Peragon does recommend clearing snow off the cover in their user manual.
Since it’s the middle of August, I can speak to the heat issue. The cover is very hot to the touch if the truck has been in sunlight for any length of time. I carry a pair of gloves in the cab and have been using one when I need to open the cover. For the amount of time you need to press on the cover to get it started opening, you probably wouldn’t burn yourself, but it’s definitely uncomfortably warm to the touch. That said, most of the other covers I see are also black and probably have similar issues. Also, once you get the Peragon started opening, you don’t have to touch it much as it almost opens itself the rest of the way.
We don’t get the big hailstorms in western MT, but I’d venture that if it would ruin your aluminum bed cover it’ll also ruin your aluminum hood and roof panels.
Install was very easy, the instructions are well written, and so far I’m impressed with the cover.
Tseekins, I hope your daughter enjoys her new pickup and bed cover!

My Peragon is seven years old and still functioning like new. The cover will need to be cleaned off. The cover is powder coated so hail shouldn't be a huge concern. The tracks and rollers to the cover are built so they will shed the snow and ice as you move the cover.
I've never had any other cover so my experience is quite limited but I firmly believe that Peragon's product is as well or better built than most, it's priced more competitively, it's American made and the service after the sale is enviable. Peragon's support staff is incredible and they will always be there for you.

Very nice! Looks sharp! Sarah looks pretty happy with the new rig. Thank you for the post, Tim!

Glad to hear a Peragon bed cover is on your short list! Tim and Montana300 gave some good info, so I'll just chime in on a couple things... We're in far northern Wisconsin, so snow and ice are significant considerations for us too. With distributed weight like snow, our cover holds up very well. The cover is rated for 300 pounds, but we recommend cleaning off the bulk of the snow before driving so the bouncing weight doesn't stress the cover. Montana300 was spot on, any hail large enough to dent your Peragon cover will have done worse to your truck.

I have a Peragon on my '10 and I live in upstate NY were we get quite a but if snow off of the Great Lakes. I have had 6-8" of heavy wet snow on it with no issues. As far as it getting hot to the touch, it is no worse than the exterior of the truck. I have had mine for almost a year and it still looks new.
That cooler looks like a tight fit. Will a 21-1/2” race fuel jug (excuse me, utility jug) fit under the Peragon cover? Ford lists the bed depth as 21.4” but I can’t tell how the cover attaches.

Her cooler is the Yeti Tundra 125. It's 24 inches high and 40 inches long at the lid. The bed cover sits about an inch proud of the truck's bed rails.

Correction to the size! Heath from Peragon saw my error and sent me a PM. The cooler is 20 inches high. I was reading it on my phone and I erroneously viewed the height as 2 feet.
Sorry for the error and thanks to Heath for the correction.
