I'm hoping someone can clarify what I actually need to be looking at on my wife's explorer.
It is a 2011 XLT, 144K. The rear camera started going on the fritz about 2 months ago. Sometimes it will work fine, sometimes it works for a minute or less and then goes black. Sometimes it works but the parking assist lines don't show up. Sometimes it doesn't come on at all. Another thing we've been seeing recently is that it will work, but when you shift back to drive and start driving away, the camera stays on for a few seconds before going back to the radio/climate/etc display. Couple days ago the camera was almost stuck on, I had to stop, shift to park and then back to drive again to get it to turn off.
Anyway- Does this sound like solely a bad camera or could anything else be a culprit? I took the camera out and the connection at the camera at least was good and still appeared water-tight, so I was able to rule out corrosion at that connection at least.
The camera lines are drawn by the camera itself IIRC (at least they are on sync3). This would imply that you've got a bad camera module (or potentially IPMB module if you have 360 view)
