302 HO or 302?

You can tell by the firing order.

Every 5.0L High Output I have seen dating back to the 1982 Mustang has had the 351 firing order all standard 5.0s have the 302 order.

351 & 5.0L HO 1-3-7-2-6-5-4-8

302 & standard 5.0L 1-5-4-2-6-3-7-8

This is because of the difference in camshafts.

Are you 100% sure about that firing order designating a 302 as HO?

My local mechanic is VERY Ford friendly, and he told me that in the mid 90's, all 302's in Ford trucks got the firing order of a 5.8L engine.

I had an ignition wiring problem here in the forums a few weeks ago and a number of members posted replys stating that my 1994 F150 5.0L should have the firing order of a 5.8L to run properly...and that solved the problem.

I'm not saying you are wrong, just very curious as to how accurate your advice is

Glenn

Well earlier in this fourm towboat told me that fireing order was for the HO. But i always thought it was kind of strange that i had a HO in my bronco. Anybody else have any insight on the subject?

HO is designated by headers, roller cam and the HO computer. As far as I know, they didnt ever put anything more than the stock 302 EFI in trucks. the true HO motors only came in mustangs and (believe it or not) lincoln mark 7. Dont take this the wrong way, but the 1996 Ford Bronco was never meant for speed. It has many other valuable capabilities but you'd better pack a lunch if you want to keep up with a mustang or something like that.

I think you answered your own question, if the vin number checks out that it is a H.O. . I thought the high output motors had high output stamped on the intake? Later

Well fellow I can offer you some more positive info. I was looking at my haynes book trying to find my firing order, I did a little work on the engine and moved some wires around, anyway, I noticed that it says the 95 and later 302's use the 351 firing order so ford must have had more HO motors than they needed or planned on keeping production on the HO going and switched over in the truck line. So if it matters to you you do have a HO. I had a question in my last post does it have High output on the intake? Later

I have a 95' with the 5.0L HO and no it's not stamped anywhere in the intake as far as I can see. I thought it was 94' and up, but anyway the 5.0L HO became standard in the truck's.

You may be right on the years but the haynes I have states 1995 and later have 351 firing order and 1994 and earlier 302 firing order. Who knows, later

So do you think they only changed the uppers or the upper and lower intake? Just wondering

the only real thing to get excited about in the ho is the cam and possibly some gt40, i had a 90 linc motor that was ho with gt40 and a 302 firing order and the same cam part num as my 93 truck

Here is a new wrinkle... I bought an old 88 towncar to use as a donor for my 66 efi 5.0/aod conversion. Ran the vin and it stated 5.0HO. When I opened it up to do a rebuild it was a roller engine. I can't remember the firing order, but still thought it was interesting.
