Looking to do a barebones DPF delete. Can it be done without a tuner?
A: don’t want a performance tuner signature on my ECM .
B: Not interested in any HP gains.... yet
I would weld up a muffler assebly w/ flanges to replace the DPF. In the event of a warranty claim I could swap the filter back in and play dumb.
Other than a SES light, will doing this cause any drivability or other issues eg. Limp mode? Waste fuel in the exhaust stroke?
My understanding is the DPF regen is initiated based on values of a pressure sensor between the filter and turbo. With filter removed the values should never get high enough to trigger a regen. Or is there other factors that initiate a regen?
Without a tuner it will throw codes from the NOx sensors, EGT probes, detection of soot, amd ..... eventually, going into limp mode due to issues with the sensors and emissions. You at least need a tuner to delete the sensor issues. If your going to delete, you actuallly need the tune so you can delete EGR, DPF and DEF systems and sensors, you need block off plates and dummy plates. Sorry to burst the bubble, but that is what I think will happen.
Everything on these newer diesels is tied into the ECM and you can't make any drastic.changes without causing issues. You're going to need a tune to allow the motor to run without the emissions systems intact.
I dropped in to see local service manager, He has same truck deleted -no after market tuner. They will honor warranty so long as theres no performance tuner sig on the ECM. Going to meet with him next week to discuss. There is a way around paying $$$$$ for a tuner.
Had bad experiences with Tuners, 4 of them laying around here (Bullydog (x2), SCT, AFE) from previous vehicles. Every one had some kind of glitch, tech support is terrible. Seems the only reliable one for our trucks is EZlynk and even that has its glitches.

Find this very hard to believe. Please prove me wrong.

I'll second the motion.
That is of course...unless this guy used IDS and disabled the sensors that way? Regardless, I cannot possibly see how they could keep a warranty intact; there is simply too much liability.
Wow.......some people should not own diesel trucks.I mean come on EVERYTHING in the powertrain or emissions is run through the ECM. You can't delete anything without a tune. And if someone told you they have they are full of it.

And some people should just keep on trolling if they have nothing useful to say.
I wonder if you could in theory use IDS and a different vin ro upload the ECM file for an export market truck. Ford makes the 6.7 with no emissions equipment for export.

That's all well and good IF your not on the road somewhere and you break down, What are you going to do have it towed 1000 miles back to your specific dealer to get it worked on? Every dealer isn't going to honor what your service manager said. Your going to be stuck just driving your truck locally.

He isnt trolling, he is speaking the truth. 12 model years of deleting and they all needed a programmer. You can run a stock tune regarding power and shifting but you still need a tuner to download the changes and shut everything off.
If you dont want the answer to your question, dont post.
