I dropped in to see local service manager, He has same truck deleted -no after market tuner. They will honor warranty so long as theres no performance tuner sig on the ECM. Going to meet with him next week to discuss. There is a way around paying $$$$$ for a tuner.
Had bad experiences with Tuners, 4 of them laying around here (Bullydog (x2), SCT, AFE) from previous vehicles. Every one had some kind of glitch, tech support is terrible. Seems the only reliable one for our trucks is EZlynk and even that has its glitches.
HE may honor it but Ford wont if they come to inspect a major issue and he cant speak for any other dealer nationwide. And then there are the files that Ford may request to look at which will be modified when deleted. Dont hold your breath on a warranty if you are deleting (when it comes to engine/trans).
And some people should just keep on trolling if they have nothing useful to say.
Hey friend!
It's really cool that you're interested in looking to simplify the delete and save some bucks. Sometimes cheap mods are the best mods! Who wouldn't want something extra for minimal tradeoff, right? You asked your question initially, could it be done without a tuner, and you got lots of great, helpful responses. Seems like the consensus indicates that it's not straight forward or it plain won't work. Bummer. Oh, but you know a guy who answered your question offline, saying that it is possible? That's cool! You can understand the skepticism, right? I mean, everyone who replied to you says it's not gonna work, but new information yet-to-be-revealed has come to light which says otherwise (and keep warranty intact). Maybe I'm misreading into it, but I think some eyebrows are raised. No one is trying to troll ya, friend. There may indeed be a troll in this thread, but it's not who you think it is! They're just going off prior experience and I'm sure once you provide more details to edumucate everyone how it can be done with no downsides, it'll be all good! Keep us posted on how it goes with your service manager next week, and please please please bring up with them some of the other concerns mentioned (will Ford honor it, other dealers, etc)!
He isnt trolling, he is speaking the truth. 12 model years of deleting and they all needed a programmer. You can run a stock tune regarding power and shifting but you still need a tuner to download the changes and shut everything off.
If you dont want the answer to your question, dont post.
Exactly, I love how people think you're trolling cause you don't give them the answer they want to hear.
The problem with these forums, 5% of the information is useful. The rest is a social enterprise for people obsessed with their vehicle looking to know what leather polish works best. They don't like the questions they see or cant think of a solution so lets bash the OP to get the post count up if anything. Posting this question is more useful than harmful. I understand it may take a while for the <5%
Its been done, you don't need a tuner to bypass emissions. Diesel pickup trucks aren't the only diesels out there. Tier 4 and 5 const. and ag. diesels it can be as simple as replacing a secondary nox/temp sensor with a resistor.
My best guess is this is what has been done instead of reprogramming or 'tuning'. Using the ford scan tool, IDS, VCM to permanently remove codes to prevent 'regen frequnecy' code from staying on which may eventually put it in limp mode. or whatever other DTC that may cause driveability issues.
Hmm I'm kinda wondering if it would involve say loading a factory tune type idea from say a truck built for say Mexico or something like that? Pretty sure trucks built for Mexico don't have the dpf and other assorted crap that we do? But then again how would the v.i.n # thing work out?
Another thing...maybe said dealer is using something similar to DPF r module? Who knows......Def interested to see what OP finds out though.

If you already "know" that 95% of the responses are bullsh1t, then why did you bother posting the question? YOU'RE the one who appears to have gotten his panties in a bunch because a half dozen people who know what the hell they are talking about didn't give you the answer you wanted. People aren't trolls because they're not telling you what you want to hear.
If YOU already "know" it can be done without a tuner, then why are you ASKING if it can be done instead of telling everyone HOW you did it?
Your service manager doesn't speak for every other dealership, nor Ford Motor Company in general. Caveat emptor, my friend.
Keep us posted, I would love to hear the outcome of this. Every time I have heard of someone removing the DPF on any 08+ truck without tuning it went it into limp mode.
You can delete without a tuner but you will need a tune installed. My dealer is delete friendly and will honour warranty unless the tune was the direct cause of the issue but the big catch was that if I did have a problem, I would have to tow the truck back to their specific dealership. This doesn’t work for me when I am a 1000 miles away for work. My dealer has a tune they download and install but it will register on the ECM. I haven’t heard any way around this. From my research, the tune only option adds 40hp and I haven’t seen one that doesn’t add any horsepower. From my understanding, a barebones DPF delete requires a tune to stop codes and disable the EGR and SCR and cut out SCR, DOC, DPF. Etc.
If if there was a miraculous way to do a quick and easy delete that was easy to return to stock without any tell tale signs, we would of all done it. Well, most.
EDIT: Shoot. I just responded to an ancient post because I didn’t read the date. I’m that guy now. Thanks!!!
At least I have company.
I was hoping @Powerslide would answer.
He hasn’t posted since Feb 2018. He’s gone. Lol. I love reading delete threads. It always starts arguments and people get worked up. One delete thread actually turned into a big talk about what family members died of cancer and farting cows. Lmao
