96 150

Long time lurker on these boards - thanks for the tons of good info!

Looking to grab this 96 if possible but the list price seems high at $4,250 despite the relatively low 98,000 miles. I'm drawn to the truck because it looks clean and doesn't seem to have lived a hard life but the seller lists that it's towed most of its life - should this deter me at all? Aside from the fuel tank problems is there anything else I should keep my eye out for? I'm decently familiar with OBS fords but definitely not an expert - also have no idea why the seller lists it as a 5.7 and a 6cyl...Thanks

Guy seems like kind of an idiot, but even intelligent people make stupid mistakes. I'd call him, see if he says anything else stupid, and I'd probably pass if he did. Plus, hard to confirm true condition with that picture.

Thanks - you're right hard to believe someone that owned the truck for 2 decades would make that mistake but maybe it was just a fat finger situation. Trying to meetup to see it just trying to decide if $4k+ is crazy high for the truck or the market for OBS fords was higher than I remember

Clean, 4200 is a fair price. Really clean, I'd expect to pay a little higher. A little rough, much less.

Great input thanks - didnt want to insult the guy by throwing a number out there without getting an understanding of the range

You can get a true sense of the truck's maintenance history by checking:

- (a) The condition (color and smell) of the automatic transmission fluid.

- (b) The color of the brake fluid and the color of the brake master cylinder, especially on the new modern plastic tank translucent master cylinders.

If it's a 300 six cylinder I would be leery buying it if he's towed the boat with it, but not as much if it's the 351 Windsor.

@100,000 the dipstick shouldn't be too discolored. @200,000 it would be plenty discolored. About the same for the oil fill cap.
