I’m currently looking at a 2016 F-150 XLT crewcab with a 5.0 and 49k miles. The truck is obviously out of the factory warranty. I don’t think I can purchase an extended warranty through Ford and I don’t want one through a 3rd party. Should I be nervous about getting this truck or are they reliable enough not to worry? I’m not so worried about the motor or tranny but moreso all of the electronics these new trucks have.
If you are buying it through a dealer you can get it CPO and then add on a ESP that covers components all the way out to 150k. The truck still has 11k left on the powertrain warranty.

Thanks for the reply. Does the ESP warranty cover the electronics like the SYNC system and such? That is what I’m mainly worried about having problems with.
There is multiple levels of ESP. You would want the Premium Care ESP to cover all that.
The ESP is only available on this truck if it is CPO because it is outside of the 3yr/36mo bumper to bumper warranty right? How would I get the dealer to make the truck a CPO?
Thanks for all all the help. I’m heading to the dealer in the morning to see what we can work out.
Ask the dealer to CPO the truck, they should have already if it's on a ford lot. Adds around 1k to the price but gets you a 7/100k warranty on critical components. Then bundle the ESP. Make sure you factor all this in so you don't pay to much for the truck! To many good deals on new to over pay on used right now.

Thanks for all your help! The reason I’m looking at used now is because the local dealer lowballed the hell out of my trade last month when I was looking at a new truck. They offered me $5500 for a truck that’s worth $10k. I walked out. If I didn’t have my trade to worry with, I’d have a 2018 in the driveway already.
Here in SD we don’t have too many Ford dealers close to each other. The dealers know this and don’t really deal too much. I found this 2016 on a smaller Ford dealer lot about 30 min away. They are asking $32,800 for it. It’s a 2016 XLT crew cab 4x4 5.0 with 302a, FX4, sport, nav, sunroof, 20” wheels. It’s a very nice truck but it having 44k miles just made me a little nervous.
Where are you in South Dakota? It might be worth a call or trip to Woodhouse Ford in Blair, Nebraska. They are a huge Ford truck dealer. May be worth a shot before pulling the trigger on a used truck that you don’t really want.
Thanks for all of the replies everyone. I wasn’t able to make anything work on this truck because the dealer wanted to lowball my trade. However, I was able to make something work with another dealer and came home with a new 2018 F-150 XLT 5.0 4x4. I’m very happy as this truck has everything I wanted and a few extras. Plus, I feel I got a really solid deal on it as well. Thanks for everyone’s help!
Frankly, I'd buy new than used since the resale value is too high on F-150's. The new ones are usually discounted by $10,000 which is a win for everybody.
