A government that fears its people is a good government.

You don't seem to understand; according to most posters, our government is doing an excellent job 'taking care of us'. They love our government's foreign and domestic policies, don't worry about Iraq, the deficits or unemployment and have never read the Patriot Act. Listen to any of the talking heads on TV and you too can be comfortable and secure in your knowledge that everything is fine with our government. The president just took a month of vacation, what could possibly be wrong?

Do I detect a bit a of sarcasm?

I still think handguns for self-defense is silly and for those who can't do it with a board, stick, tire iron, fist, or foot. Point your peashooter (I don't care what caliber) at me and prepare to die a quick death, with bare hands. I can get hold of you before I die, and will take you to hell with me.

I contend that cops, in general, are all I need for day to day armed intimidation and the people I would want to shoot are likely to run like scared rabbits if I come at them. The same is true of my 74 year old daddy. I'm a fairly big guy, but that old SOB can still make me cower with a look, and he is what anyone would classify as small.

I agree that a government that has a little fear of the citizenry is a better government. Guess why they want us to be disarmed? It isn't to prevent little old ladies getting mugged.

How do you get past the 18 rounds of 9mm? Do you have really long arms?

You people don't that support gun control don't get it..... The second ammendment is in place so that WE THE PEOPLE can OVERTAKE the government if neccesary. Furthermore the people with gun that you have to worry about DID NOT GET THEM FROM A RESPECTABLE LISENCED DEALER! They got the off of a truck or out of some guys trunk. All that gun control is going to do it take away OUR RIGHT TO PROTECT OURSELVES! I have no desire to lose this right, I don't know about you, but losing the ability to shoot first or be shot scares me. The only thing that should be mandatory are background checks.

Pretty damn hard to argue with that. I didn't see anybody screaming for gun control aside from full-autos. The points against full-autos have already been adequately stated. I'm not even real comfortable with background checks, and registration is out of the question. If I was sure the "protectors of the constitution" were actually destroying the records when they should, I might be more comfortable with backgrounds. I don't want 'em knowing my movements.

I move fast when I'm mad. 'sides, 18 rounds won't necessarily drop me before I can get to the shooter. As you already know, making holes in somebody might not cause instant death, use hunting for example. How many guys have had to follow blood trails for miles? I can name a bunch. And if I'm already shot, what have I got to lose? Getting shot again?

If you or anyone were in my house, or even in front of me and were ready to attack..and it's pretty obvous when somone is ready... one quick shot to the head will leave you immediately blank, blotto, zip. You underestimate those of us serious enough to practice and know what our weapons do. One .357 round, Federal Jacketed hollow point, into your chest and I seriously doubt you are going to be thinking about coming for more, no matter how big and tough you THINK you are. 9mm, perhaps, but even with a lousy shootist aiming at you...you are going to be hurting, badly and thinking twice about receiving more. I have been on the battle field and seen what ONE little .223 round will do to a body and the person's reaction to it. I have seen one little .44 caliber round knock a man backwards and flat on his back. Let's not even get into the hunting ability of some people.

It's easy to talk tough when sitting safely in your home, that hasn't been invaded. It's another story entirely when one is facing death and already has one or more holes in them. Unless, of course, you are fired up on some illegal drug, like good old Rodney was. I think you had better think again.

As for the police protecting you...that is the biggest LMAO I have ever heard. The police are a REACTIONARY force. They react in most cases, AFTER the crime has been committed, unless they hapen to be on the spot as the crime is beginning. You are living in a make believe world if you think the presence of a police department is your safety and security. We have police all over every city in the nation......and yet murders, robberies, rapes, etc continue unabated. There are also laws against said crimes. Passing more stupid legislation, like gun control, will accomplish only one thing. It will take my GOD given right to self defense away. Or at least my LEGAL rights away, but then if gun control gets that far, I will already be considered a criminal, because there is nothing or no one on this planet that will get all my guns.

Oh, don't take my word for it, but if you search the internet, I'm sure you can find where some judge stated that it is not the duty of the police to protect you. For some reason it is their duty to protect government officials, etc., but even the police know they cannot protect everyone, everywhere.

I didn't say I totally rely on cops for protection, and I am not particularly big and bad. I do say I have worked in ER's where guys with a lot of holes in them from punks with 9mm pistols were in better shape than the punks. My point is that people who feel safer carrying popguns in their socks often eat their popguns, ammo and all. The .45 came into being for those very reasons. Not all those filipinos they were shooting back then were even doped up. To elaborate on your idea of the internet, check why, and the history of, the 1911A. Then feel comfortable with your popgun.
Me, I feel a lot better with the belief that the shooter is going with me, and my .308 lever action.
By the way, I think the army was using .38's in the spanish-american war, just a little tad larger than a 9mm. Bigger bullet too.
Rifle cartridges are a different story, mostly 'cause of velocity.
I already agree with you on gun control, you're preachin' to the choir.
Just like at your house, lead poisoning is a serious risk at mine .

There's a reason why we see so many gunshot wounds in the hospital ... they lived to tell about it. Most of 'em from handguns.

Didn't mean to rag on ya bout that, but ya seemed a tad over confident as to being able to keep on truckin after getting shot. You must be in a big city. I seriously most punks even know how to shoot properly and accurately. A solid point 9mm is not the best weapon, for sure. That's why I carry a .357. But even in my 9mm I use Federal Hydra-shock hollow points. Most punks spray fire, shoot holding the pistol sideways and perform a lot of other movie stuff, thinking they are baddest of the bad. But, one well placed round, even with a .22 or .22 magnum will take out anyone.

Anyway... we be drifting off topic... this was about fully automatic weaponry and the supposed "bunker boy mentality", so...back to topic now, and I think I already spoke my piece about that.

Your point is made and appreciated. Yeah, I live in a big city, but the punks are slowly dealing each other out. Darwinism ....
