Another 04 No Start

It's an 04 with an 08/03 motor. 200K miles. Icp by the turbo. Died today on I10, had it hauled home. It started in the driveway but now it's not starting again.
During starting - values measured using scan gauge.
ICP: 242, IPR: 84.7, SYC:0, FMP: 48.5

ICP Sensor has been changed in 2013. IPR valve hasn't ever been changed since I have owned the truck.

Possible IPR issue or HPOP?

I'm going to start the trouble shooting tomorrow.
Start with a visual inspection of the IPR then perform a leak test on each rail.
Anyone ever had experience with an IPR causing a hot no-start?

It could be the IPR partially stuck. IPR% is a commanded value, not an actual position value, and you obviously aren't getting enough ICP to fire the truck at 242. You also need to air test for an HPO leak before condemning the HPOP.

Ok. that's my plan. I will air test tomorrow AM. For a proper air test I need to command the IPR closed with 12v?

That's correct, but pull it first to see if the screen is covered in trash or missing entirely. You need the IPR to be good to have a successful test.

Update: I now have access to the connections for the IPR and ICP. I unplug the IPR and the ICP comes out on it's own.
The previous mechanic (who worked on it two years ago for some injectors) broke the clips off the ICP plug.

Could this plug being loose be the cause of the hot no start (intermittent) ?

I am still going to pull the IPR and check it out. And get a new ICP plug.

Fixed the ICP plug, also swapped out the IPR plug. Performed a leak test on the even bank a determined the #2 injector is leaking.
Pulling it out now.

If the ICP sensor connection comes off it will go into default but should start and probably throw a code. I don't think it will cause a no start unless it somehow grounds out the VREF circuit.

There is "some debate" over this, but the PC/ED manual states that if the ICP pressure is not above 500 psig and voltage above 0.8V, then "the injectors will not be enabled by the PCM because of insufficient rail pressure". Section 4 of the "Hard Start/No Start Diagnostic Procedures". For 2006 MY it is page 4-20.

Also stated on page 4-26: "A 5us to 2ms fuel pulse width (FUEL PW) will be sent to the FICM if the system voltage is greater than 8 volts during cranking, engine cranking speed is above 100 RPM, injection control pressure is above 3.5MPa (500 psi), and is in sync."

I take this to mean that if the voltage generated by the ICP is insufficient to meet the above conditions, it will cause a no-start.

Also, we all quote a 150 rpm minimum for starting. I take this to be the functional minimum ...... while the PCM minimum is lower at 100 rpm.

Hopefully I don't ruffle too many feathers over this "perspective"!

No feathers ruffled here. That scenario sounds logical to me.

Got it going again.
I did have a miss so I went back in and checked the injectors and ficm connections and found one of the ficm plugs was not quite clicked in all the way.
Ignore the Sync = 0. I have never been able to show sync correctly on this scanguage.

Here's the video of the scan gauge showing IPR%, ICP

Here's the air leak
