Back up camera gone dark. Thoughts?

Hey all. This has happened about 10% of the time when i put it in reverse. The screen showsthe guidance lines but is otherwise dark. Also, the 360 view shows dark where the rear camera image should render. Anyone have this happen?

If so, what was the problem. Is this a setting I messed up or do I need to get it to the dealership.

i can't think of a setting that would do that 10% of the time. Take her to the dealer!

yeah, I was more wondering if I am not hitting some button and mucking it up. No time to read the owners manual. Although i am not really sure why there'd be a button to deactivate it. So, probably some connector that's messed up.

This is what you get when you unplug the camera so I would guess you have a continuity issue in the plug. Check for any moisture in it and then use dielectric grease to seal the plug from new moisture.

I had this happen on my Ram last week. I went out back, tapped the camera with my finger, lowered the tailgate and jiggled the wires going from it and the bed. Camera returned to normal and has been fine since.

Probably not a fix, but might shed some light on where the problem is...or at least a short term solution to get it working again.

It's possible that the tailgate camera harness connection is loose. Check Removing your Tailgate in your OM for harness location info.

Depending on which Sync 3 firmware version you have, there may be a "Rear Camera Disable" control in the Camera Settings menu.
