Another Mid-50s Mystery 4WD On CL

This ‘56 with 4wd is now on Seattle CL. The truck is no doubt like others that have shown up in the Pacific Northwest that have war surplus Power Wagon components. The seller thinks it sits on a Power Wagon chassis, but that is doubtful given the Y block, and stance similar to the others that have shown up. A war era PW wheelbase would be 126” vs the Ford 118”. Wish there was a way to learn what company did these conversions. I have no connection to the seller.

Here’s one of the old threads with a discussion of these trucks. Stu

The owner says it sits on a Dodge WC (G-502) 3/4 ton series chassis (although he didn't state that because he probably doesn't know, but that would be correct for the year claimed). The WC series had a 116" wheelbase, except for the ambulance, weapons carrier, gun turret, and command car which had a 123" wheelbase. If that's a 5,000 or 7,500 lb. Braden winch in front then it most likely is sitting on a WC chassis. I used to own a '55 Dodge M-37. That would be a fun project for sure.

Yup, you convinced me. Looking it up in my copy of Dodge Trucks - Serial Numbers 1917-1980, the 1941-1947 half ton WCs have a 116” wheelbase. It was the WDX, like my B1PW126, that have the 126” wheelbase. Thx. Stu

Looking at the pics I highly doubt that it's a frame swap. I can see the original thru the floor pedals and nothing seems out of place

The ones we’ve seen before had only the drive train changes under the stock chassis. This ad has now been pulled, but it showed the stock Y block which would seem unlikely if there had been a full chassis swap. Stu

Closeup shows suspended pedals, and the way the wheels are set in the fenders shows a slightly shorter wheelbase by a few inches, but the cab and bed seem to be centered pretty well. However, there seems to be a shift lever missing for the PTO winch. Wish there would have been more pics of the engine bay and underside.

Most definitely a clutch pedal thru the floor

I concede. I mistook the handbrake for a pedal arm.
