A/C Not Blowing Hard

Hey all,

I'm back for another problem that I can hopefully find an easy solution for. I have a 1997 F350 7.3. Recently had the A/C recharged and a new compressor installed. It blows ice cold and works great with one exception: after running for a while, especially on a hot day, it stops blowing hard. I can switch through all the modes and it works correctly and adjust the fan speed and I can hear the increase in air flow but cannot actually feel more air coming out. This is a BIG issue as the beast is my daily driver and temps are topping 100+ in my area. Although cold air is coming out, it is not coming out in high enough volume to cool the cab of the truck. I end up cooking in the hot sun. I have read that the cabin filter being clogged can cause this issue but not sure that the 97 has a cabin filter.

Any suggestions?

Sounds like maybe your Outside air recirculate vacuum motor may be inoperative.

I'm not to familiar with the 97 but I had the same problem on my 02. what happened in my case was over the years dust and dirt had accumulated on the heat exchanger plugging the fins. instead of disassembling everything to get to it I cut a hole in the housing so I could fit a shop vac in it to clean it all up. Then I cut a tin patch and screwed it on with a bit of silicon. it's hidden up in the dash so it doesn't effect the look of the truck.

If you know your blower is good it's blocked air flow. So either your heat exchanger is plugged or your filter is plugged.

Evaporator could be freezing over. Low pressure cycling switch may not be working properly. While it’s happening turn the a/c off for a few mins and see if the air volume returns.

This was what happened in my Taurus. The a/c was good for a little while and then I would gradually lose airflow from the vents.
