Shop safety

In the news some one died from blowing air into someone. I never really thought about how much air, at high pressure, can be lethal.
maybe old news for some but hey, being safe is better than being hurt

from https://almeco.eu/en/blog/5-biggest-...compressed-air

Potential dangers

Unfortunately, horseplay has been a cause of some serious workplace accidents caused by individuals not aware of the hazards of compressed air, or proper work procedures.
1.Compressed air accidentally blown into the mouth can rupture the lungs, stomach or intestines.
2.Compressed air can enter the navel, even through a layer of clothing, and inflate and rupture the intestines.
3.Compressed air can enter the bloodstream, and death is possible if it makes its way to blood vessels in the brain. Upon reaching the brain, pockets of air may lead to a stroke.
4.Direct contact with compressed air can lead to serious medical conditions and even death. Even safety nozzles which regulate compressed air pressure below 30 psi should not be used to clean the human body. If an air pocket reaches the heart, it causes symptoms similar to a heart attack.
5.As little as 12 pounds of compressed air pressure can blow an eye out of its socket.

Thumbs up

Interesting info on air, I am always cautious with it when using air tools. Ear and eye protection.

Keep a 10lb A-B-C extinguisher in the shop too!

Safety first ... or when it’s convenient.

No but seriously compressed air is no joke. Also DO NOT use pvc for shop air. Yes it holds. Yes it’s cheap. Yes it’s easy to install. But a couple years down the road when it gets brittle and you accidentally smash something into it KABOOM pvc shrapnel everywhere.

Also hydraulics are no joke. Do not go feeling around for a hydraulic leak because if you get high pressure oil injected into you there’s a good chance you’ll be getting extremities amputated if you don’t get help quick.

Also do not use brake clean to clean parts you’re about to heat with a torch or plasma cut or weld. If there’s craters in the metal and a pool of brake clean gets left behind and you superheat it when you start a bead or fire up the torch it’ll turn into chlorine gas and go airborne. This will kill you and it won’t be pleasant.

Seriously be careful with what you’re doing.

I like this one as so many use brake clean for prep.

I have brake clean that is non chlorinated and I do not use it. Not sure if acetone is good or not.
