Computer problems...

[updated:LAST EDITED ON 15-Aug-02 AT 00:04 AM (EST)]Hey all,
I'm having a problem with my JPG viewer. I installed a graphics program the other day to view pictures from my video camera, and somehow it turned all my JPGs into a file that opens through that program. I didn't want that so I removed the program from my computer completely and now my JPGs had no viewer to open them and it made me select a program to open those types (JPGs) of files with. I selected Explorer as the program and that clearly was a mistake. Now all my JPGs have and explorer icon instead of a normal JPG icon. Can anyone tell me how to get the original JPG program back? It doesn't give me the option to open with another program anymore. Thanks in advance..

Did that new program come with an un-install feature or did you just
go crazy saying yes to delete this file ?

Also, What program is the one you want to be the default ?
You will probably have to re-install the old program(the one you want).
Usually the newest program installed takes over.

[updated:LAST EDITED ON 15-Aug-02 AT 00:15 AM (EST)]Highlight a JPG file, hold down shift key while right-click. From that drop-down menu, click "Open with..." and select the program you want to view JPEG's with. Check the box if you want that program to open JPEGs all the times.

Or try opening My Computer, then pull down menu “Tools” and scroll down to “Folder Options”. Click on the “File Types” tab. In the Registered file types window, scroll down to JPG, then click on JPG to highlight. Click the Change… button and from the list of programs choose the one you want to use to open any file with a JPG extension. Note: you may have to use the Browse button if you application program is not listed in the window.

Computer problems...

[updated:LAST EDITED ON 15-Aug-02 AT 12:27 PM (EST)]I found the application designated for the JPGs and went to change it but it wants some information. Since I changed it to view under explorer it took it's values as well. Can someone look under their JPG file under folder options and tell me what all the values are for a JPG file. Not to be confused with the Jpeg image. You have to use the edit button for the JPG File, I need that info and the info after you hit edit again when you're in there. Thanks for any help guys...

Computer problems...

Ry,
I'm at work so this isn't the settings I would use at home but maybe it will help. This is what I have here:
"C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\PhotoEd\PHOTOED*****"

My computer here uses Microsoft's Photo Editor to view jpg's. At home I have it set to a graphics program that I used called Paint Shop Pro. The way I do mine there is open PSP, click file/file associations then have it select all graphics files to associate with PSP. That way it becomes the default program for any type picture that the program (PSP) supports. You should be able to open this program you want to use and have it select the file associations for you in similar fashion. The help files in the program will probably walk you through file associations.

Ron
