I bought several 2.5 gallon jugs of Motorcraft DEF awhile back. Not exactly sure but I can research it. Maybe six months? I drive my 450 around 10,000 miles per year so I don't go through DEF a whole lot. When I am driving it, its usually pulling anything from a 6000 lb. landscape trailer to a 10,000 lb. equipment trailer to an 18,000 lb. camper. But I find I'm not having to fill it too often; especially with a 7.5 gallon tank.
But now I'm hearing DEF has a shelf life that's not too great. How long would you wait until you decide to throw away a jug? I have two jugs left and my DEF tank is 3/4 full. Its not so much the money. Its the hassle of finding a place to dump DEF.
On the farm we buy it in bulk. And it can sit a long time in a cool dry place. 2 years is not a problem.
No problems at all with machines worth 7x as much as a new truck.
Thanks to you both.My DEF jugs stay in the garage in a cabinet. Its dark and the average temp should get me well over a year of storage, according to that link posted by saskowner.
I do need to check their dates though. Appreciate it.
