A friend of mine has a 428. he says it has the DOV heads. He said these heads are the best heads for performance. Any info about this motor and heads is appreciated. I don't know what it's out of. How tuff would it be to drop it into my 74 F100 2wd? Will the C6 thats bolted to the 351M bolt up to it?
Check the FE forum for info about the motor - lots of FE gurus there.
To swap motors you will need a new trans (different bell housing pattern), motor perches, accessory brackets and alter the exhaust. But it would be worth it!
No "Vs on FE engines either, never had em in Lincolns.
It's like all the people who buy 9.25" Lincoln rear ends that only fit Lincolns. Only Lincoln that ever had a 9.0" was the Versaille & only for a couple years at that.
As usual mil1ion is right on the money, and somebody is either mistaken or gettin' their chain yanked. . . What's it they say ??? IF SOMETHING SEEMS TOO GOOD TO BE TRUE IT PROBABLY ISN"T ! yeah that's it.....FBp
OK guys, Take it easy on me. As you can see I'm new to working with Fords. I did see DOV cast into the right head. I think the plugs are like what Mil1ion said. So what should this motor be, 429, 460. How can I tell the difference? Any numbers on the block I can look for?
Don't sweat the treatment - they only pick on people they like.
There aren't any casting marks on the block that will help. If it's a 429/460 it'll have 7 bolts per valve cover. The only way to distinguish between the two is to get inside and look at the crank. (I loaned out my rebuild book, so I'm drawing a blank on what to look for - sorry) They use the same block and most have a '460' cast into the end of the block.
Either will bolt up to the C6 from the 351M. Motor mounts need changed I think, but it's a fairly easy swap.
on some of the older units you might find a tag bolted under the coil bracket if it is there thats almost a dead givaway (or someone is trying to screw someone)
Thanks Guys, I didn't take it personnaly, I was pickin' back at ya'. It'll be some time before I can get back to my buddies shop, I'll let y'all know what I find out.
