Coil position

I have 53 Ford F500 with a 6 volt positive ground system. I am replacing the coil. Coil has a plus and a minus side. On the old coil, plus side was coming from the dash and negative side was going to the distributor which is opposite of what the markings on the old coil actually says(see picture). Should I put new coil in same way so the plus terminal is going to the dash and the negative coil is going to the distributor?

The new one has liquid in it. It is a new 6 volt coil from MACs (64-20890)

On a properly connected, 6 volt + ground system, the printing on the 6V coil would be the correct hook up.

Sounds like a different problem changing the coil even if it was wired backwards would not affect the starter button

Well itís not been a good day. When I push the starter button I get nothing. I know I have a good ground from batt to frame and from frame to starter but that hold starter in place. How do I remove the key ignition switch? Does it just pull out it is it in there with a nut? On the ignition I have two new red wires the on on the side goes to the push button. The one on the bottom goes out to engine compartment. I feel really defeated at this point. Not giving up. Just disgusted. Iíd like to take it down to just the bare wires and parts needed to get it started and stopped.

Maybe I put the solenoid (starter relay) in backwards.

The coil will work either way, just better for the points if installed correctly. In your pic it appears that it is wired backwards. The (+) goes to the distributor for a positive ground system just like it's printed on the coil. If you have a three terminal "Ford" starter relay (two big terminals, one small terminal) you could have it wired backwards. Switch the two big wires and try it. Keep the big wire paired with the smaller wire that it's paired with.

Here is a pic of the solenoid. Big black wire on right coming in from negative side of battery ( some kind is marked BAT in that side)!Small red wire in middle going to a connector box to a wire going to push button. Black wire on left going to starter. Cloth wire going from BAT side of solenoid to connector box with a jumper to horn relay. Horn works. The other red wire on metal frame of solenoid goes to a bolt through the frame to the positive side of the battery.
Should the solenoid be flipped and the negative wire from battery be going in opposite side (not the BAT) of solenoid because it is a positive ground system? I only took one wire off at a time and replaced. I donít see how I could have messed something up. Obviously I did.

Take a jumper wire and connect it to the terminal on the relay with the red wire connected to it then momentarily touch the other end of the jumper wire to a good ground. The starter should "jump" and/or the relay should click.

That red wire doesn't go to the relay, does it? The red wire on the relay should go directly to the starter button, maybe via a junction block.

Where does the wire on the starter button go?
