So this winter after getting home from working out of town (truck drove fine) parked it for a bit. Go to start it cold and threw it in gear and BING BING BING! lights "trans fault" pops up and it started shuttering. Immediately freaked out and shut er down. Turned it back on and put it in drive and nothing. Stayed in neutral. Reverse worked great! Once it got warm I could rev it up and it will CLUNK into gear and away I go. When I'm pushing on the pedal shifts fine. Drives fine. Pull up to a stop light or sign it goes back into neutral until I give it gas and clunks back into gear.. stays in if I keep the pedal pushed and I hold onto the break. This winter when cold before it would clunk into gear the alarms go off and it acts like it wants to die. I'd turn it off then back on to "reset" it until it will finally get in gear and go. No that it's summer it pretty well goes into gear Everytime without the alarms goin off but still needs to be reved up quite a bit before it does. I have a company truck so the personal one has just been sitting. But it's time to deal with this issue. Hopefully without spending a bunch of money I DONT have. All my money goes towards a little princess I have and our new "fixer upper" house.. I'm Considering just finding a used tranny and buying it and swappin them out. My luck I'll need a new one anyway. Hopefully not though. Any ideas of what it could be? Someone please help a brother out and tell me it's a cheap fix. And oh yeah. Everytime I go have the oil changed in it the have to let the pressure off of the transfer case plug? Apparently transmission fluid leaks into it. But I always check my fluid after learning that and I'm NEVER low on trans fluid. Is this some sort of black magic?? I'm not mechaicalmec inclined either. So please answer like I'm really stupid😊
It needs to come out and overhauled. There is a problem with the forward clutch causing it to bleed off pressure. Most likely a ripped lip seal or cracked drum.
Cool! I love to hear stuff like that. Thank you for informing me though. Anybody got a used trans for sale!? Hell I think I can drop one down and just slap another one in it can't i? Because I'm sure it's just that easy..
