Looking at putting a Northstar 850sc pop up truck camper on my 2018 F350 crew cab 6.7. Dry Weight 1,785 pounds
Wet Weight* 2,654 pounds. What would you suggest I do to the suspension? Do you recommend a bed mat? I am new to truck campers so any info would help.
Thanks
Nothing. Drive it as-is and see how that feels. Then you can decide if you feel that you have excessive sway or any other effects that you do not like and adress these specifically. It is a low profile, fairly lightweight popup camper with a low CoG, after all.
A rubber bed mat is probably not a bad idea. Just don't use a plastic drop-in bedliner underneath the camper.
What do you plan to use for tiedowns? Personally, I have good experience with Torklift front and back and their Fastguns.
Is the camper new or used? Make sure it clears the bed sides and cab roof when first mounting it - you might need some sort of spacer underneath if it doesn't.

Totally agree. Northstar has a riser to clear the cab which seems to be part and parcel of most Northstars. My Hallmark is the same proportion and a bit heavier wet and I put Super Spring stops on my 2012 to reduce sag, but I ran thousands of miles without them and had no problem at all.
Thanks for all the info. I want to make sure I am level when loaded. Not sure how much it will squat in stock form.
I have the snow plow prep and it is level now with no load.
Robert,
As a guess I think my Hallmark squatted my truck about 1 1/2" and with the Super Springs I think it may be about half that. I also have the plow and camper packages on my truck. I used the Super Springs as I did not want to mess with air bags. As I said, I had not problems at all in stock form.
It will have noticeable squat but it will probably drive just fine. There are a lot of solutions, but the only one that gives you the ability to adjust it exactly how you want it is to add air bags.
Red squatted 3-4" or so stock with the S&S with the overloads engaged with the Stableloads it only squatted an 1 1/2. Thats the only mod done to my truck.
Looking at NS 850SC for 2019 F350 6.7 short bed...following and learning. Have the ultimate tow package and thinking about adding the camper camera. Will see what the dealer has as options. Any recommendations on the pad or if front bumpers will be needed?
The 850 SC is not heavy by truck camper standards. With a one ton you should not need to do anything at all to the suspension. I was looking at the 850 SC for my truck when we ended up settling on the Northern Lite 8.11 SE we currently own. I would not have done anything to my suspension had I gone that route. With our Northern Lite, I probably would not have needed air bags but I did put them on in addition to the Torklift Upper Stableloads.
My truck had the camper package so it already had the stabilizer. My recommendation would be to not do anything and haul it for a while and then decide if you need or want anything at all. They are a really nice camper, my wife just wanted a hard side over the pop up.

Did you ever get the 850SC and do you have any pictures of it on your truck? I'm looking to get the same camper on my 2018 F250.
Pinnacles National Park with top up. Standing is about 6'4" and can almost completely sit up in bed. Top down is really nice on forest roads and hwy driving. Bku camera - ultimate trailer aux camera from Ford. Plug and play. Mounted low and it does its job!
Dealer added Timberin SS, bed pad, riser to clear bed rails and torklift fastguns/locks. Really pleased with everything.

Thank you very much for the pictures and info. It is a great looking set up. Do you have a sliding rear window and if so how well does it line up with the pop out window in the camper?
Yes - power sliding window and it lines up well. However doubt if I'll use it. I have ran an extension out the tc window to the 30amp plug connected to a jackery 1000 to test it...it worked but no need as i have the ac outlets on the unit.
