Was looking at changing out the MAF in my stock "03 4.0 Explorer. I've read the claims for more HP and torque but in reality do they work, and what increase if any would I see? The only other mod I have is a K&N filter.
If you change the MAF, you have to get an aftermarket chip with a custom-burned program. Diablo chips custom-burned are about $300. You cannot reprogram the stock ford chip. Believe me, I've looked everywhere.
You don't have to have any aftermarket chip. Just get a mass air meter that is calibrated for the stock size injectors, and you should have no problems. Look up Pro-M mass air meters, they are probably the best. www.pro-flow.com
Yeah, but i found that i wanted a chip anyway, plus i am replacing the crappy 14lb. stock injectors with 19lb. ones. I know they can calibrate a new MAF for the injector sizes, but i feel more comforatble with the ECU having the proper lookup tables, rather than it being "fooled" by the MAF. plus, the custom calibration cost on the MAF would put it close to the $300 price tag of the diablo custom-burned chip.
