I was on the Ford owner's site today and I came across a video on using the Sync 3 radio as a wifi hotspot. Playing around with the radio on my 2018 today and sure enough there is a wifi tab under apps. If I understand this correctly, you can set up a stand alone account with AT&T for $20/month to use the truck as a wifi hotspot.
Am I understanding this capability correctly? Has anyone set up this hotspot account with AT&T? Any feedback?
I apologize in advance for the question. I'm not very up to date with this technology.
I also checked into this the Shark Fin on the truck is Equipped with the Sync Connect Embedded Modem to use the truck as a wifi hotspot
for $20/month but I believe the first 1 or 2 months are free.

If i`m not mistaken, on the 2018 F150`s, if you didn`t order your vehicle with SYNC Connect, you will not be able to use your vehicle as a hotspot and that AT&T monthly fee is for SYNC Connect equipped vehicles.

How would I find out if my 2018 F-150 Platinum FX4 has SYNC Connect? Will it be on my window sticker? Is SYNC Connect part of the Technology Package?
I think that if you go to the radio itself and click on the settings tab then scroll right to the second page, you will find one of two icons. If you have "wifi + hotspot" you have the connect feature. If it only says "wifi" you do not.

If I'm reading the following information correctly my 2018 F-150 Platinum at lease has the option to activate SYNC Connect. I already have a FordPass account. My truck does have Wi-Fi/HotSpot on the screen. I need to find out how it get it activated.
FROM the FORDPASS SITE:
"Vehicles equipped with SYNC Connect: SYNC Connect is standard on the 2017 Escape Titanium and is included in the SE Technology Package (201A). For 2017 Fusion, it is standard on the Fusion Platinum and Platinum Hybrid. In addition, when the Driver Assist Package (90A) is ordered, it is standard equipment for the Fusion SE (202A), Titanium (300A), V6 Sport (401A), SE Hybrid (602A), and Titanium Hybrid (700A). For 2017 F-150, it is standard on the King Ranch®, Platinum and Limited. It is also included equipment for the Lariat Luxury (502A) and Raptor Luxury (802A) and optional for the XLT Mid (301A), XLT Luxury (302A; not available with Regular Cab), Lariat Base (500A), Lariat Mid (501A), and Raptor Mid (801A)."

Go to att.com/ford. You can set up an account online or there is a phone # to call.

Thank you Sir! I've got an AT&T account for Direct TV and internet. It looks a trial includes 3 GB of data which expires in 3 months for a new SYNC Connect account. I don't know what it cost yet.

my 2018 you only get 3 gigabytes setup and used in 3 months
I just use my smart phone as a hotspot. Almost all have the capability and hotspot data is included in whatever data plan you have. Why would I open another account when I always have my phone with me?
In Canada, the pricing is ridiculous for the hotspot, 10GB is $70/month.
I wonder if I could just sign up on the US plan. I only need the hotspot in the US anyway, where my phone doesn't work. Anyone tried signing up a Canadian truck on a US plan?
