I just aquired a 97 Ranger with the 2.3L.
It had a broken timing belt when I bought it.
I've replaced the belt, belt tentioner an wp.
I am still not getting it to fire up, I did make a mistake at first and used the wrong Mark on the cam. I've corrected this an still no luck.
First question I have is the belt was Broke so can you still just line up the marks.
I know you have to find TDC on comp stroke, how when the belt was already gone?
.
What does your repair manual say? You DO have a repair manual, don't you? You need to beg, borrow or steal one. (No, don't steal one)
There are a few videos on Youtube that show the repair of this belt. One tooth off, especially on the timing gear, and you won't have full power or it won't start.
I do appreciate the input, what I'm not sure about it's that white living up all your marks can you still be a rotation off. All the marks are right on the dot but can you still be on the wrong stroke. So if your Mark is right on the money does that mean both valves are ckosed or one more ratation makes the difference?
You have to make sure your on top dead center on the compressions stroke usually for a specified cylinder in the repair manual (usually cylinder 1) then line up all your marks and if it's electronic ignition there is usually some sorta of procedure so you can get base timing set on it
