Hi all! Newbie here from northwest wisconsin. Right now the not so proud owner of a 99 ford f350 w th 7.3l. I've got oil in my degas bottle and she won't start hpop is full looks like oil cooler is bad maybe. What are your thoughts. Spmeone said the oil filter adapter could be bad how can you tell? TIA for any help
Oil in the radiator could be an indication of leaks in the oil cooler / filter assembly. But I don't think that would keep it from running unless it's really bad and you're getting coolant in your oil. When running your oil pressure should be higher than coolant, but while hot at idle your oil pressure could be below the 16psi in the coolant, and once shutoff oil pressure goes to zero while coolant will stay at 16psi until it cools down. There's a good write up with diagrams and pictures on the entire system here.
Ok guys here ya go i changed the oil cooler and put everything back together, added fluids no extra bolts or nuts. Turned the key it turns over but won't start and no oil pressure. Checked hpop and it was empty. Filled hpop turned key oil pressure came up but still no start. As soon as i stop cranking oil pressure drops. Thanks for your help. And really mean that because this is a totally new frontier for me. TIA.
I've not done this job yet, someone else likely knows better. I'd say to re-check the oil in the HPOP reservoir, might need to be topped off again 'till the LPOP can purge the air out of the system. If you didn't fill the oil filter before trying to start it it'll have even more air to pump out, and I'd suggest filling the filter before continuing to try.
