3-link 4-link

Hey everyone I’ve been doing really search since I started my project which is a 1977 f100 it has a crown vic itfs and it’s getting a 5.0l coyote out of a 15gt. I need help figuring out he rear end. It’s has a Ford 8.8. From what I read a 4-link has a lot of binding and that’s it is really good for drag racing but not for the track. I read that a 3 link is the beatnik option. The rear end will be getting coil overs my issue is that I’ve found a ton of 4 link kits but almost zero 3 link kits. Wondering if anyone can put me in the right direction.

Do you still have the crown vic? They have an excellent rear suspension setup. I believe they are parallel 4 link with a watts link.

I would duplicate that as close as you can. Triangulated 4 links have bind; parallel do not but the triangulated is the easiest way to limit side to side travel. On a parallel a panhard bar or watts link control side to side movement. Disadvantage of a panhard bar is the axle moves in an arc sideways through the travel.

a watts link setup moves pretty straight up and down but is more complicated.

I'm a bit rusty on suspension tech but used to be pretty good

I had a triangulated four-link on my 78. It was built for off-road, but I never experienced binding. For the street and/or track I would use a parallel four-link with a watts bar. With the right calculations you shouldn’t have bind and it will ride nice with little to no wheel hop.

I don’t, I never had the full crown Vic just picked up the if’s. It seems like there’s a good consensus on a parallel four link and the watts bar. Will start looking at kits for that. Always open to new information

Truck arm rear suspensions are pretty simple and handle pretty well from what I've read, i believe it's what NASCAR cars have. I'm also a fan of a torque arm rear suspensions. The Vic suspension is a nice set up. I have an 06 Vic with all aftermarket, solid aluminum, rear suspension, bigger sway bar and stiffer shocks. It stays flat and just sticks to the road. I've embarrassed a few mustang owners spanking them on twisty roads, but then they get me in the straights, lol.

im looking for my information if anyone can point me in the right direction. from what i understand the torque arm rear suspension would be way out of my price range unless im wrong if so educate me. ive been leaning towards doing a custom 3-link but cant find too much literature on the subject and how to do it and what to order. i understand the concept but im looking for more details. i understand any kit i buy 4-link parallel or triangulated will still have to be customized to some point and ive heard nothing but good things from the 3 link system. thanks in advance just craving more information
