What is this?

Hey, I'm new to this site. I just picked up a 2007 F250 6.0 4x4. The truck was a salvage and "repaired" due to water damage and I found this little thing under the dash. All but two wires were cut. Can anyone tell me what this is and what it connects to? I also have a TBC Fault reading on the odometer display. Does this have anything to do with it? There is no trailer brake controller in the truck

That looks to be a trailer brake controller, or part of it .

GPS tracker.

Guessing your vehicle was part of a commercial fleet (including rental fleets), or sold with a high-risk loan at some point.

If it's part of a GPS tracker, then I don't need it right? The only wires connected are a red power and a black ground.

If power and ground are the only remaining connections, pull the unit and toss it.

I don't know that particular unit in detail, but some of the GPS "trackers" also had an alarm component. Some of them have remote-disable capability (Missed a payment? No car for you!). The other already disconnected wires may be related to those functions.

Cool. Thanks. Now what about the TBC fault? Will I have to get a TBC to make it go away? Or do I have to take it to a dealer to clear it?
