I have a 94 f250 4x4 with 460 AOD. I am thinking about upgrading the Ignition for better fuel economy ( isn't that an oxymoron...460/Fuel Economy?). Any recomendations on brand, model, etc? Budget is a concern (haven't won the lottery yet).
I recently purchased a Jacobs ignition for my 1985 F250 351W. The ignition I bought was called the Omni-pack. I haven't noticed a tremendous amount of fuel economy but I have noticed an increase in Horsepower which in turn makes me burn more gas because I always have the pedal to the floor. I don't do very long trips so that could be why I haven't noticed the fuel economy. I paid about $600 canadian for it so that is about $400 American or something close to that. The website is www.jacobselectronics.com and keep me posted if you find something better.
A lot of us run the MSD 6 series (I run the 6AL on my 90 F-150) and seem pretty happy with them. That is just the igintion box itself. There's also the coil, plug wires, etc... Most of your High Perfromance companies make igniotion upgrades for your rig. Jacobs, Crane, MSD, and Holley are a few that I know of that make upgrades to your ignition system.
I run the MSD 6A in my truck along with blaster TFI coil...haven't touched my wires or plugs yet but wont be long!
brother runs a MSD 6AL in his 5.0 mustang, useful to have that rev limiter when drag racing a 5-speed...hit 1st instead of 3rd doing a good 50 mph...blow that sucker sky high if it doesn't cut out!
I couldnt help, but note that you have concerns regards fuel useage of your 460 with AOD, do you know your axle ratio? perhaps you would share just what you are suffering with at the present. I am looking at the similiar truck to purchase.Thanks.
My axle ratio is 4.10. I just bought the truck 2 weeks ago (it is in excellent condition) so far I am getting around 6-10mpg around town.I love the truck and would be REAL happy with 12-14 but a solid 11 would be ok too...
Just wanted to clear something up. Are you absolutely sure you have an AOD? I thought the only OD tranny that would work with a 460 was the E4OD. The only other auto tranny offered with the 460 was the C6 which was '91 and earlier and did not have OD. Just wondering...
