Hidden gages

My speedometer on my 61' F100 went crazy yesterday so I thought I would disconnect it for now. I pulled the aluminum housing out of the dash and it looks to me like there are two gages that are "hidden" in the panel. On the outside they are black faced covers that I thought were where someone could install gages. One of them is a oil pressure and the other has two leads sticking out. Looks to me like all I need to do is pull the off black covers on the outside and I should see my new gages. Anyone ever run into this???

Sounds interesting. Can you post pictures of the covers and what it looks like with them removed? I've never run into that before. In 1965 and 66 if they cut holes for the gauges at the factory or dealer they would use these trim rings to go around the gauges to give it a finished look. Does yours have something like these? The number on the bag has two digits swapped (16 instead of 61). Used on all 65-66 Standard Cabs and 120" WB Custom Cabs when the extra gauges were included.

C5TZ-10A861-A - Instrument Cluster Housing Trim - use with amp and oil pressure gauges - 2 each

Just tossing out idea's, I would be concerned about the '2 leads sticking out' if I were to hazard a guess possibly the circuit for the generator gauge, suggest test to ensue the circuit is not connected!

These are 2 1/4 inch gages. Looks factory to me. I haven’t peeled the cover off yet. Waiting to hear if anybody else has found this.

Man, I must not be livin' right. Cool beans.

You already have an idiot light for GEN and OIL, the PO must not have gotten around to connecting everything up.

Is a simple T fitting all that is needed to run both an oil light and gauge? How about an ammeter? That's a little trickier I expect.

They sure do look pretty. I wonder if they came out of an F600 or bigger?

Did Ford ever use Stewart Warner gauges in the bigger trucks? That's what they look like to me.

The same oil pressure gauges used 1961-1963 F100-F1100 and it wasn't Stewart Warner. You can search on each of the applicable part numbers and see on eBay exactly what they each looked like.

Now I can't get the 57 year old oil sending unit out to hook up my new gage. There is no doubt that I will destroy it in the process. Is there something going to be left that I can get ahold of to remove it?
