Sirius Antenna Question

I’ve noticed on a few truck pictures it appears Ford has returned to a larger “Shark fin” type of antenna on some 2018 trucks. Anyone know about this change? I’ve got the small puck shaped antenna and it plain sucks. Curious if I can retrofit one of the new fin designs to the rig and improve the reception.

Maybe the large one is for trucks with the GPS map display.

Have it on my 2018. I'm betting it's a combo Sirius and GPS.
Id bet the antenna can be retrofitted, but it'd need to be painted. Call your dealer's Parts guy and spend 10 minutes looking at the parts book. Be a pioneer for the others wondering, not asking.😜

IDK - I have an 18 XLT, it has the shark fin. I have NO GPS but it did come with SIRUS. Don't know if there is a correlation between type of Antenna vs GPS & SIRUS ? If the op is getting crappy reception via SIRUS, get out the Woods. The only things that block satellite signals are trees, bridges, or any other solid structures between the antenna and the satellite. Since I've never tried SIRUS or listen, I can't comment on their service level.

So out of the three things you mentioned, which is it for?

No sync connect on my truck. Don't know about the modem, but it probably does, because it finds my home wireless router ?

I thought it was for the Wifi hot spot. I have to Sync Connect on my 2017 and no shark fin.

So I have Sync 3 without the Nav. And my reception has nothing to do with “the woods”. It goes south with clear open skies.

Thanks everyone for the ideas...good conversation. I might dig around at the Parts Dept next time I’m there.

It is for Wi Fi Hot spot and something about your phone carrier using the signal to get a Wi Fi connection out in Remote locations,I haven't activated that part with my phone Carrier
Its suppose to be free for 90 days then a charge on your phone bill no Thanks!!! That's what I think the Modem is all about
