1989 ford f350 7.5l bogs down when it gets warmed up and only while I'm driving not at idle. The check engine light flashes rapidly then just stays solid but goes away at idle. It bogs down from 60 to 35 mph as if running out of fuel but then surges back to 60 then does it again. I've replaced fuel pumps and filter, fuel pump relay, fuel regulator, map sensor, took the cat off and still same issue. I have no idea what to do next. The codes that come up dont match the symptoms since it idles fine and will drive fine when it cools down. My codes are in order as follows (97,87,1,32,41,87,95,32,41,87). I'm lost on what to try next. Also the key on the tank pumps are constantly running.
a spazzing CEL along with continuously running fuel pumps point squarely at computer trouble.
at the very least you should pull it out and inspect.
many here will say just go ahead and replace the capacitors even if they look ok, and i am inclined to agree with them.
I switched computers with one from a 1990 and now it surges real bad in idle and driving but no check engine light. I still have the CAT off so I will put that back on.
was the 1990 a good running engine or an auto wrecker engine ? if the latter, you may have swapped 1 bad computer for another. these computers worked great for 25-30 years but it is now possibly the number 1 failure point on these trucks.
