Finally pulled the trigger and got my new steering gear. They are getting a core I picked up for $25 on a pick-n-pull 1/2 off sale. And... I asked if they had any interest in the original gear, control valve & cylinder from the original power assist setup. They offered $250 for all the above. So after I get that and the core charge back, the total cost for this new gear is $200 including the shipping charges. That’s how you do business.
Hopefully they do some r&d on those parts I am sending in... There has to be a market for good replacements. Not everyone can upgrade to integral steering but most can replace a bad part.
Ah well it will be a while. Currently in the process of reassembling the chassis. This is the last major component in this stage of my rebuild. But then there is the cab, bed, engine/trans, and the rest of it. At least a year or so out. So much for the one year warrantee; but I trust it’s a great product. I am sure it will last as long as the truck does.
Looks good! What goes into the decision when guys chose either Redhead or Bluetop for their steering gears? Is it strictly pricing?
never even heard of blue top until you mentioning it. Looks legit with comparable pricing to redhead. Redhead always gets rave reviews though so I guess I went with what I felt I could trust.

I never heard of Redhead until your post that's why I asked lol. I bought a steering ram (cylinder) from Bluetop, I just checked Redhead and they sell the cylinders too! $70 more than Bluetop.
Ryan owner of Blue Top worked for his cousin at Red Head and then branched out on his own. Both have stellar reputations. I opted for Blue Top back in November 2016, because Ryan (Blue Top) was a little less expensive and I'm still very happy with my Blue Top steering gear box.
