A/c clutch problems

I am trying to troubleshoot a/c problem. When I turn it on the clutch engages and spins but only for a couple seconds then stops turning. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Throw some gauges on it...probably has nearly no refrigerant in the thing.

Agreed. Sounds like it is low on freon

As said above probably low Freon, but you really need to put a set of gauges on it to tell for sure. If the condenser doesn't have good air flow threw it to cool the refrigerant the high pressure switch could be shutting the compressor clutch off, but you can't tell with out gauges on it to see the pressures in the lines.
