Did you ask your county/city about the slab? I don't think a permit would be required to pour a floor slab inside of an existing pole building.

There's two ways to do it, Ask for permission before hand or forgiveness after the fact...so they say.

This property is on the code enforcement radar. Lots of things that came up when this place was bought. Plus the plan for that pole barn is going to be a reception area for a wedding venue that is in the works. There is a little two-ish story apartment to the left of the pole barn that is getting fixed up slowly for a bridal party bungalow of sorts. Things have to come out of that pole barn anyhow.

We'll get a replacement building built sometime in the future with vehicle wrenching in mind. Not ready to tear down Dan yet so a little spot for rebuilding an engine will do fine for now.

You could always bring in some 5/8- gravel and grade it smooth and hit it with a vibrating sled compacter. That might do for now. Or get some treated plywood and some treated 2x4s laid flat over gravel and stitched together with screws.

It begins...

Stopping myself before too many parts and bolts come off and I lose track. Need to get a pack of ziploc bags. Maybe try to find plastic bins too.

More stuff taken off the motor and had to stop at the harmonic balancer. Don't have a puller for that. Moved back up top to pull out the lifters and noticed damage in the cast. Is that a deal breaker for using this block in a rebuild?

I would say that is just the way the block was cast and if you don't see any marks on the lifters you are ok.
Besides how would that happen on a sealed motor and where did the parts that came off go?
I say carry on with the build.

There a few things that lead to believe this was a cold casting. If you are planning a stock rebuild it should be fine, but if f you are looking to increase power at all I would find another block.

I am looking for around 450hp / 500tq at the flywheel. Doubt I would dyno the engine but my parent's neighbor has a chassis dyno I would probably have some runs done. So whatever it makes, that is what it makes. Maybe some tuning with the EFI setup I will do.

Chatted with some guys on 460ford as well and they said it would be hard no for solid roller race build but for my needs, I would be fine continuing. I have a good while before I start to build so if a cheap block shows up that looks good, I'll pick it up. I got this motor for $350 with a C6 and sold the C6 for $100. Hoping I get to keep my good deal going

I would find another block if you are going to be pushing that sort of HP. The indications of this being a cold casting are the voids on the lifter bosses and the washed-out casting tags that did not fill in properly when cast. Who knows what other voids are in the casting and what kind of cold joints are in it, to be honest, I'm surprised this block even passed QA/QC normally a cold casting like that would have been recycled and never even made it to the first machining stage let alone finished and assembled. Someone sure was asleep at the switch when inspecting that casting if it even got inspected.
