Hi Everyone,
I am trying to replace the AC clutch on my 1987 F-150 302 5.0L, 2wd. So far however I am unable to find it on google and the Haynes Manuel. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.
If you have a shim combo that can get you right around 0.020" to 0.025", that should work fine.A little under 20 will work, but over 25 might give you engagement issues later.
Unless the coil is bad (rarely happens) as said above, you likely just need to reshim the cluth gap to get it to engage properly. Measure current gap, with a feeler gauge. If too large, pull center bolt, slide of clutch plate, install the proper size shim, and reassemble.
Whatever gap you choose, Stay within the specs. I personally go towards the smaller end of the gap spec as the gap will increase over time with wear and it might save a future repeat shim job.
Thanks for all the help guys. I got the parts in today and changed out the clutch and she is running smooth as silk. Here is the pic of the old parts. Cost me 100.00 bucks in parts and a Saturday afternoon and 4 beers.
