So using my overdrive everything overheats in about an hour and a half on the interstate so the transmission shop erased all the codes told me to turn the overdrive off and continue my trip around the Great Lakes but I was wondering whether I should head home.
the fluid has that nasty burnt smell, so if the clutches on the 4th gear or the one slipping or some other reason to cause it to heat up then driving in the first three gear should be good for a hundred thousand miles it's a 95 and it only has 60000 miles on it but it is a heavy RV so maybe that's why I overdrive burned up
I take it you have an F53.
The clutch will not lock up in 3rd gear and can cause it to overheat.
They should not have cleared the codes without giving you a list of the codes.
If we had the codes it may tell us the clutch was slipping in 4th gear and causing the overheat.
I thought at one time you said that when push the OD button that it will stay in 3rd gear without the clutch and then it could cause overheating from the TC.
I was not sure about that when I posted about third gear and the clutch.

I should have said he took it out of limp mode there were no codes.
so what I'm hoping is that all the Heat was coming from Overdrive and using one through three for about 2 hours without going into limp mode but the question is which direction should I be going for those two hours towards the great lakes or back to Virginia and I don't know what it means if the torque converter is locked up or not locked up

When you say it is overheating what are you saying. The engine is overheating or the transmission is overheating. If it is the engine then it might not be the transmission that causing the overheating.
If the engine is overheating then why did you go to a transmission shop?
If the engine is overheating then maybe you need an electric fan installed in front of the radiator. I have one on my F53 and when the engine starts getting too hot I turn on a switch and the fan will cool it down some.
No it's just the transmission fluid overheating because of the way that it smells and that's what's causing the limp mode in the transmission runs at 175 degrees if I don't use OverDrive so what I'm trying to determine is is do I have a really good low mileage 3-speed transmission that I can keep using without any fear of it going out

Clean fluid is always better than burned fluid. But there is the question of more damage from installing clean fluid. I'm not sure how that happens but it happens. There are incompetent and immoral people who take your money and destroy your transmission.
Do you have a way to get your transmission properly serviced?
How are you monitoring your transmission temperature?
What makes you think it was in Limp Mode?
How did he take it out of Limp Mode?
If it was in Limp Mode you would have a code in memory telling you what sensor caused the Limp Mode.
But you say there was no codes.
You may have a chance if you don't change the fluid.
Hmmmm...I think he'd have a better chance if he DID change the fluid. Not that I'm saying it needs to be done, but new fluid is ALWAYS better than old fluid.

I used to think that too. After being in the wrecking yard industry for 3 decades I have learned what works and what doesn't.
Not much info to go on here.Too bad.I wonder what the codes where and I'm scratching my head trying to figure out why you think 175F trans temps are overheating trans temps.That is about perfect ( @ the test port).The codes will help diagnose what's going on.Need this/these first.
