Auto to manual ?

This might be a odd question, if I was to change my transmission from 4r70 to a zf5, first, is it possible without a bunch of computer issues, second, will I be getting a stronger tow vehicle?
thank you.

The computer shifts the automatic.
It looks for the circuits to be their, if not a lot of codes will be set.
A manual uses a different computer program, needs a clutch pedal assembly and associated switches.
Trans mounting, drive shaft etc. all need to be addressed..
Not a worth while change over for all the hassle and expense..

Thanks Bluegrass, I had no idea manual transmissions have ties to computers to operate. I posted same question on another site, it was suggested I can build my 4r70 to handle quite a bit of torque cheaper than going through the headache of changing to a manual. I'm not planning to build my 5.4 2v any more than mild upgrade when the time comes .
I don't have doubts in the towing capability of my 150 but it's being recommended I move up to a 250. I think many people under estimate the 150 imho.
I followed your lead installing a fan on the trans cooler, next is installing one on the radiator, so far so good. Thanks again.

A trans shop that specializes in building high performance transmissions can do the 4R70 or any auto you have..
There are at least three grades of friction materials to use depending on the application to as far as high horse power drag racing.
Improved front pump, bearings, improved EPC , custom converter and valve body changes. Smooth positive gear changes..
After a build like this, Mercon V is no longer used as a fluid but may be Ford LV as in my build or the fluid they want used in the build..
For towing the rear gear ratio accounts for quite a bit..
The shop I use can even make changes to the computer operating program to compliment the result..
The cost is a bit steep but you get first class results by the owner who has been in biz more than 50 years and does world wide Biz..
If you were to drive my 4.6L from a stop you might not believe the motor is stock, but the trans has had the magic touch.
The shop is LEVEL, 10 Hamburg, N.J.. If your interested , .give them a call and talk it over.
Good luck..

Thanks for the replies, I will give both shops a call, I'd love to keep my auto and I darn sure don't need a 250.
