Well, I finally got to this last weekend. The bolt head was not broke off after all. What looked like the shaft of the bolt missing the head, was just dry gasket maker that filled the hole. There was no bolt to begin with (Reason #5,032 to do your own work).
All is remedied now and looking nice again after fresh paint.
I’ll take a missing bolt in a situation like yours over a broken one any day. Glad it worked out for you. :drinks:
Edit: Those of you planning to service your diffs before you grab the RTV, google LUBELOCKER DIFF GASKETS. They are easier to use, reusable, much cleaner than RTV and they seal immediately instead of having to wait for the RTV to set up. I use them in both my truck and Jeep (7 years) and have removed it multiple times over the years, it’s never failed or failed to re-seal.

Glad to hear this. I almost went this route but after making the mistake of trying an aftermarket trans pan gasket, figured I'd stick to Guzzle's play book. Nice to hear first hand experience - and a successful one at that - on these. RTV is a pain to scrape off and wait to cure for sure!
