The tube protector
The tube protector
On the Tornel site you can buy tubes and tube protectors along with the tires. considering these protectors look a lot like old cut up tubes, could I not just use that?
Also these are not fast vehicles. Has anyone used slime in their tires?

All of the flaps, tube protectors, that I have used are molded specially for there intended use. They are roughly 1/4" to 5/16" thick in the center where they set on the rim and the sides taper to nothing as they go up into the tire. They usually have fabric in them like a tire also.

The liners, or protectors, you are inquiring about are designed to fit appropriately against the rim and along the inside of the beads of the tire when the inner tube is inflated. The liner is thicker than inner tube rubber so that it does not 'bunch' up and pinch the inner tube after inflating. The liner protects the tube from coming in contact with the rim and/or seams where the tire bead seals againt the rim. Without an appropriate liner, the possibility of a pinched tube can occur. A pinched tube will eventually develop a leak and you will be starting the process over and installing the liner the second time. In my opinion, the expense of the liner, or protector, is worth saving oneself the headaches of having to start over. As for slime, never have used it on automotive/truck tires except in emergencies. Have only used on off-road vehicles, bicycles, riding lawn mowers, etc. I have seen it freeze into a lump in sub zero weather and tear up the inside of a tube.
Don't know about slime in a car tire but some years back I had some tires fail on my 5th wheel trailer. When I filed a warranty claim one of the first things they asked was if I ever used slime in the tires. I assume that if I said yes they would have said that voided the warranty and used that as a reason to deny the claim.
