88 F150 o2 sensor plug

I have a 1988 F-150 with the 4.9L . I found the plug to the o2 sensor just hanging with what's left of the wires one the harness side. I'm having a hard time figuring out what the o2 plug was wired into. Anyone know? Every once in a while the truck seems to hesitate while speeding up, and then it "kicks" in and goes. I am wondering if the o2 sensor not being connected to the system would cause this?

Good morning,

I have the same truck and almost the same problem, except in my case the wiring connector is still in place, it's just that the o2 wires themselves are partially severed. I will go out and take a picture of the harness/connector that the o2 clips into as soon as I'm done with my coffee. I'll post it here shortly.

I aim to replace my o2 sensor if I can remove it myself, although 30 years of heat cycles seems to have welded it in place. If you opt to remove/replace yours please pass along any tips on how to get the bugger OUT.

I'm not able to upload the picture from my computer to the site for some reason, but I'll describe it as best I can.

If you're looking at the o2 sensor, to the front (of the truck) and above it is a black ribbed wire harness. About a foot to the front of the 02 sensor, coming from the black harness, is a wire with a plastic connector that the o2 clicks into. That's how it looks on mine, if I can get the picture I took to upload later I will.

Without the o2 sensor in the circuit, the computer might get 'confused' and not give a proper feed of fuel. I had an o2 sensor on my '95 4.9L 5spd that physically cracked, after hitting a pothole, and I had hesitation issues, that I could work around by upshifting or downshifting.
