So my son bought a 1990 Ford Bronco II the check engine light was on. Did the wire on the EEC to get the codes. 41 - bad O2 sensor.
I go online to to find an O2 sensor that isn't to be $$$ (btw rockauto.com has good prices)
I get the sensor, jack up the bronco to replace it I find that it looks like there is only a broken sensor in the hole, or what's left of a sensor. After looking more I find that the location to connect the connector above the valve cover doesn't appear to go anywhere.
Without a bad O2 sensor connected to a wire or anything. I'm having a bit a challenge wondering how to connect it.
Do I have to splice it? The O2 sensor I got said OE replacement, but it doesn't have the same connector, and there's not an old cable to follow or replace.
Not unusual to find a busted O2 sensor...Many times if the transmission was removed and replaced--it can be allowed to shift and it's right in the line of fire of the O2 sensor. (that's how ours wound up busted)
Wiring to the O2 sensor, if not correctly routed? 'Can' make physical contact with the exhaust, which will destroy the wiring in short order--and worse case? (yeah...ours did this)...The heated wire for the O2 sensor dead shorted out and melted about 6" worth of wiring in the main harness. Biggest wiring mess I've ever dealt with. Connecting and splicing about 10 wires all melted into each other---with the heated O2 wire right in the middle.
I'm thinking both happened to this one. My main problem is finding out exactly where it plugs in. I think I found it looking on alldata, but the connector that came with the new O2 sensor will not plug in there, nor is the wire on th enew O2 sensor long enough.
Is there a wiring/pin out diagram somewhere that I can use to wire the new O2 sensor up?
