Need info ASAP! Have 92 F-150 with burned engine wiring harness. I just got this truck a few weeks ago and found out that the battery had a low cell after it would not crank after sitting a couple a days. I recharged and checked with load test and voltage. Load test showed good at that time but voltage showed about 14.2. A few days later my wife came home and said that she smelled something when she parked it so we left it until the Saturday thing. It wouldn't crank today again but I was going to take it the parts house and get a new battery anyway. When I opened the hood I found several wires (including alternator wire and plug) with burned insulation.
I presume the high voltage trying to overcome the weak cell (old fashioned trick- hook up a charger and see which cell doesn't bubble) fried the wiring.
Anybody got a ballpark guess on having the harness replaced? I'm thinking $1200 plus.
good to a bone yard and get one there open the harness up and confirm the new(used one is ok ) if you do this right you wont have to cut and splice. the charging system has its own harness and is taped down with several other wires in the system .
I had the charging sytem on my wifes other car 95 contour burn up i went to ford and they wanted about 350. for the charging system. I picked it up at pick a part for 28. dollars and i had to separate it from another bundle but it was well worth my time.
or you could just replace the wires the are burnt.

Thanks for the cross-reference info. By the way, this is a 5.8L if that makes a difference on those models you gave. I'm not turning loose of the rope yet, but I'm hoping that my Comprehensive coverage with State Farm may cover some of this and I won't have to fool with it. I haven't done much serious mechanic work since I grew up and quit street rodding back in the ...'s.
Thanks again.
You should be able to use 1992-1993 5.8L/E4OD harness as it is plug-n-play. Earlier fuel injected 5.8Ls didn't have a spark knock sensor, and I believe your '92 does, so you would have to retain yours.
You could splice out what is bad, but that might take forever to find the right one. In my opinion, I would find this harness, and just unplug and plug the new one in.
