Sync 3/ Apple Car Play Issues

Hey guys,
Wanted to see if anyone else has had problems with either the two systems. The Sync 3 system is alot better than the Sync 2 system i had previous experience and problems with in a 2013 F-150 i had. Anyway for the last couple of weeks when i start the truck sometime the screen will be black for awhile, or come on and not respond to touch right away. I won't let me change the radio station or do anything. I usually plug my iPhone in and use the apple car play, but that has been messing up also. The map in the sync system will not show up on the screen or it will say no GPS when it does come on. Also my backup camera will stay on after i switch to drive or the screen will be blue sometime. I've got it to go off by pushing the media button on the control panel. We've had alot of hot 100 days here in south Texas the last couple of weeks and i though the heat maybe causing the computer to mess up, but i would think they are designed to handle the heat without issues.

I like the system but not being able to use it without issues is getting frustrating. I haven't had time to take it to the dealer yet, so i was just looking for input and what my be causing it or how i can try and resolve the issues. I haven't tried a master reset but i probably should.

Mine was getting a bit slow for a while as well. I started leaving it at the home screen before turning off the truck, and that seems to have helped. My back up camera stays on until I reach 5 mph going forward. I'm not sure about the speed, because I'm never looking at the speedometer that slow, but it feels like about that fast when the camera clicks off. I also have the camera set to stay on for the maximum amount of time allowed. You might try reducing the camera on time setting to see if it helps your situation any.

Thanks for the tips. Yeah i know about the 5mph cutoff with the camera. When i got above that speed in the driveway it was still on and the the screen turned blue. I'll try the home screen thing and the camera time setting.

Sorry to hear about the problems you`re having but have you tried a Master Reset or a Soft Reboot of the SYNC 3 system?

No but i will and report back. Seems like it's getting worse. Just took short trip this morning and the screen was locking up and would drop my bluetooth connection and wouldn't re connect. Map also said no GPS and was lagging behind.

OP. There are a few things you’re going to need to do as the sync3 system is finicky.
1st. Make sure your phone is set to receive sync notifications and check this after every IOS update
2nd. Make sure your sync is UTD...I can’t reme the series # but it starts with 18#### not 17####. Think we’re at 3.0.13
currently some folks are having issues downloading this update via wifi so go to the Ford sync site and load this on a stick (32 minimal).
if none of this helps then I’d suggest the factory reset but you’ll lose all map data you’ve stored like previous destination so you might want to write that information down to input later. If it’s important obviously. If all these measures fail you might need a new sync module. My 16 F-150 needed one. Good luck and keep us posted.

Mine has been driving me nuts too. I plug my iPhone in to listen to amazon or pandora. I will hear the phone beeping at about 10 second intervals- the beep it makes when it starts charging. I look at the phone and it is connecting and disconnecting. I have tried reconnecting, changing ports, changing cords, cycling ignition. Nothing works. Then the next morning it wil work fine for maybe 3-4 days then mess up again. It does the going to fm at start up a lot, does a lot of Sirius updates and does momentarily lock up for a few seconds. All this started after the last update. Annoying but is one of those things that the dealer may not be able to duplicate.

Which iPhone do you have. Reason y I ask is I'm not sure if the new 2017 have the older module that support the newer iPhones. I ended up buying the newer one for my '16 F-150. I'll see if I still have the photo.

It is a 6s plus. Fully updated. Was working fine until the last sync update. About half the time or more it works perfect. Just frustrating when it screws up.

I read your advice above. I just looked under my notifications and sync isn’t even listed.

Hmmmm your right. Odd. Oops looks like it’s been modified and moved to settings. scroll to car play. Make sure your sync3 is connected with your truck

I have a 6s, IOS 11.4 with Sync 3 latest update. I'm not having any of these issues. The phone actually does 2 connections. One is bluetooth, the other is via the cable. The notifications are under the bluetooth connection. They are Show Notifications and Sync Contacts. The cable is used for the Carplay features along with FordPass. With the cable not connected, you will not be able to use Carplay or the apps.

Thankx wildcard. I knew there was notifications Bluetooth eh.
Little off topic, a lot actually. What’s with the comment of tourist infested Fl. Doesn’t that make things better for your state?

Nope. I would rather pay a state income tax then have to put up with the tourists in this area. Same for the old fart, self-centered snowbirds and their “you Florida full time residents should be grateful we own houses here and pay taxes” attitude.

These are the same people that complain they don’t get the same taxes breaks full time residents do.

From thanksgiving to Easter we have to put up with the 85 y/o people from out of state that drive into restaurants and post offices, making left hand turns from the right lane, pulling out into traffic and doing15 mph under the speed limit in the left lane. Forgetting to turn off their turn signals for 5 or 6 miles, and are out during lunch time on work days making it difficult for working people to get anything done.

I really want to have a tourist get eaten by a gator when they are stopped with their vehicle half off the road taking a close up picture. And no, the women that got eaten in south Florida was not a snowbird or tourist. Just a transplanted idiot probably from somewhere “up north”.

It has gotten so bad here, that I’m leaving Florida when I retire.

All the the other seasons allow hunting and a bag limit. I don’t understand why snowbird/tourust season does have one. Because there are quite a few that should be eliminated from the gene pool.

I’m proud to say I have never been to “Mickey the Rat” land. And I’ve lived here most of my life.

I was on a flight out of Orlando going to Denver for business and the father of 2 with a young baby and a 6 y/o was seated in front of me. The guy was bragging about how they where returning from a short notice vacation to Mickey the rat land. He could not say enough to the guy sitting across the aisle about how they dropped 5000 on this vacation. I interrupted him and said “thanks for spending your money here and I’m glad you are heading home. One less tourist to put up with. Next time how about just sending your money and staying home. “

That stopped the bragging, but his kid scream for most of the flight. At least until this he-man dad start slapping him in the face to get him shut up.

Florida needs to institute a tourist tax. The tax would involve stopping anyone driving into to the state as tourist, giving them a beatdown, taking their money, and sending them back. Anyone arriving by plane will be require to sit in the plane for 24 hours with no A/C or bathroom service. Only then will they be allowed to leave the plane. Of course they get a beat down and their money taken. Then it’s back on the plane to fly to wherever they came from.

The state motto should be, Welcome to Florida, now go home.”

Yes, that how I really feel. No BS.

Ok, off the soap box and back to the real purpose of this thread.

Wow. That’s quite a statement. When is the manifesto coming out. I can see how you would get angry at stupid people on the roadways. I can’t stand those drivers either. Well you could come up here “up north “ in the summer and meet folks from “ down south “ with their skidoos asking where all the snow is. I politely say Greenland. Your in Canada.

No thanks. My daughter lives in Southwest Colorado. We have 200 acres there and that’s where we will be retiring. The property is in a high alpine desert, summer time average high 80. Winter low 20. 12 inches of rain, 33 inches of snow. I’m ready to trade a/c for heat.

I have no desire to go anywhere north on the east coast. We will be making our first tow with the F250 in October. We are going out to the property for 6 weeks. We have been going out there for the last ten years.

My manifesto is well known by my friends and family. Do I actually hate the snowbirds and tourists? I despise them and make it a point to let them know it when they run their mouths about why the the locals should appreciate them more. I’m not the only local that feels we can do without them.

Ok. Back to the real purpose of the thread.
