Does anyone know where I can find some good instructions for replacing a PCM in a 2001 Expedition? I’ve got the chilton book, but the instructions are lacking in details and seem too simple. It looks like it’s a good ways under the glove box on the passenger door side.
Also looking for recommendations on where to find a reputable vendor to buy one from.
This is a very tricky item to replace. The key code for the PATS anti-theft system is also stored in the PCM and if you replace the PCM without programming in your keys the engine will never start. Replacement PCM for most people require the dealer because of the programming involved.

Does Forscan with Extended License allow for programming the key codes?
It has a "Configuration and programming" capability the Standard version does not have.
I was reading another thread a month ago and I thought the OP was able to program his PCM with key codes with the upgraded version.
The main thing was to be patient, there is a 9 or 10 min timer before programming key codes would work.
Changing the PCM itself is fairly straightforward.
