When I use the remote start feature to start my 2018 F150 (2.7L), the AC comes on at the same setting as when I was last using it (as it should).
However, when I insert and turn the key to "On" in order to start driving, the AC fan quits working for about 5 seconds or so and then resumes operation. Is this normal or an issue?
I have the same thing in my 2016.. and, yes, it quits for 5 seconds. Been doing that since new so it's normal.
One thing I've noticed is that if I get in, put the key in and turn it slowly to the on position, it shuts off. If I get in, put it in and quickly turn, it doesn't shut off.
That must be something with the factory remote start because mine does that too. My wife's Explorer has an aftermarket remote start on it and it does not do that.
Also worth noting is that my wife's explorer also plays the radio and everything else when you use the remote start (essentially the same as if you got in and turned the key) whereas the F150 does not. So I guess it's just a difference with how they are set up.
It is kind of annoying on hot days, I also noticed it takes a couple seconds for the fan to get "up to speed" when you first turn it on as well...kinda weird.
Correct, remote start isn't the same as starting it. The plug outlet in the back does not work when I have it on remote start, it only turns on when I put the key in and turn it.
I had the idea of putting in a coffee machine there and having a fresh cup of coffee ready to go but that doesn't look likely.
The main reason the fan motor shuts off, is to allow the compressor time to move enough refrigerant to the evaporator so that you don't get the blast of hot air for a longer period of time. Why it still does it even after you utilized Remote Start, is in my mind a Programming error. There is no reason why the computer doesn't know that you previously used Remote start and it should not shut the blower fan off. But until somebody informs the programming group that is responsible for the start up procedure, the problem will continue.
Try turning the key quickly after you put it in ignition. If I do it fast enough, it doesn't shut off.
You obviously don't know much about electrical current. I don't care how fast you turn the switch the contacts are going to close just the same.
Think of a remote start as putting the truck in "standby" mode. When you turn the on, the system "resets" to previous conditions and energizes the rest of the electrical system. That's why it shuts off briefly. It's not a programming error.

The compressor is already running. Not a programming error.
Mine is seamless from remote start to run position. 2015 model
Mine too. I did notice the OP doesn't say what trim level he has. This may be a dual zone auto climate control thing. Has to 'reset' once the electrical system is fully functional. Our XLT's don't have the dual zone auto climate.

Like others have chimed in, mine is also seamless. The quicker I do it, I don't feel the fan stopping or the engine turning off. It does turn off if I turn it slowly. So... you obviously don't know much about it, I rest my case.
I think you are all wrong. The first detent in the switch is accessory. In that mode, you cannot run the A/C. This isn't yesteryear when you turned the key backwards for accessory. So, turning the key to start actually shuts the blower off, and if you are quick enough, it will seem seamless. Also, starting will shut the unnecessary circuits off to prevent overload and give max amps to the starter.
