well here's another wall... '53 f-100 with a lincoln c-6 transmission, an Ididit Column and Lokar shift linkage. Started thinking about neutral safety switch... found the wall. The Lincoln used a column mount switch with a little hickey thing that the column linkage tripped. Lots of fords had them also... My column doesn't have this option. The other c-6s use a transmission mounted switch that mounts over and around the stock shift linkage. My Lokar linkage is sitting there right now...
Anyone have any suggestions for a work around and can get me started (only in park or neutral) toward a solution
Lokar sells the bracket and switch for the C6 transmission. The switch can be used for either backup lights or Neutral lockout- Lokar : Auto Trans Accessories
How about using a spring loaded toggle switch remotely mounted anywhere that you toggle for engine start. That would not keep you from starting the engine in gear, but you could always
ensure the shifter was in neutral when you toggle up to complete the start circuit. Just an idea to kick around. Aircraft used spring loaded toggle switches on recip engine primer circuits.

Reason: fat finger skinny keys
I talked to a Ididit tech and he said nothing was available for the c-6 when using their shift linkage.
maybe I'll call back

You need to contact Lokar since you have a Lokar Shifter and trying to match the wiring to the Idit column with the C-6 Trans . The Lokar bracket and switch mounted with the Lokar shifter will Cancel out the start circuit in any position other than Park or Neutral. Lokar I'm sure can advise you as to how to wire it through the idit column you have.
I'm using an ididit column with lokar shift rod/linkage
The ididit column is basically a GM design or very close to it, Part # BL-1400U is a backup light? neutral safety switch kit but does only one or the other. It doesn't list a C-6 transmission but you might want to contact them and ask if it might but I'm sure it could be adapted. Looks simple..seen here at bottom of page 14. Cat28_1030
Yes, the Lokar shifter that I have has a switch on the top right. But I didn't have to use it as the Ford 4R70W transmission that I am using behind my 8BA flathead has the switch integrated into the position sensor on the left side of the transmission. I don't know if the C6 has that sensor or not. If not the Lokar switch should work just fine.
Lincoln w/a C6 could be 1966/67 462; 1968/78 Town Car & Continental Mark III/IV/V 460; 1978/79 Town Car/Mark V 400; 1977/79 Versailles 302/351W
I doubt that any of these Lincolns use a specific NSS, depending on the year/model, probably the same as LTD/Marquis or Thunderbird or Granada/Monarch.
It would be nice to know what Lincoln the C6 is from.
Here's the pic of the column, but it's not from my 1973/79 L/M catalog, because it's on microfiche. 1973/76 T-Bird is the same.
NSS could be basic part number 7A247 or 15520...I don't see it.
What you're describing is this: 1967/77 F100/350: NSS located towards the bottom of the column. NSS selector lever fits into the shift tube, knife blade end pokes into the NSS
sorry Bill... the transmission was from the Lincoln... the column is an Ididit custom built. The original NSS (so I’m told) fit on the side of the transmission case and slipped over the ‘gear arm’ that the original linkage connected too. Kinda a half moon box with a hole in the middle. That would be great but I’m using a set of Lokar shift linkage (arm and heim joints) that connect the column to the trans gear... and it sits right where the NSS should mount. I talked to Ididit and asked about modifing my column to use a column mounted NSS with the little arm coming out of the column tube to move the NSS switch.. They wanted 130 labor and parts and 50 bucks round trip shipping... I’ve already got too much in this column for that to be an option
one of those numbers you listed shows on amazon for over 300 bucks... ain’t going that way either... I think my best option is just forget it and be careful... nobody is going to drive it but me or someone with me in the truck with them...
