Towing capacity
F-250 5.4 3.73 Crew cab What to do to get more towing capacity other than 4.10 conversion. What about a chip or? Why is their a towing capacity and a fifth wheel capacity for larger engines but not for the 5.4. The owners manual says about 1100 more lbs for a fifth wheel with 4.30 versus w/o a fifth wheel. How come my 7,300 limit is not increased for fifth wheel towing.

5.4's aren't a good match for a 5th wheel trailer. I don't think a chip would do enough, it might. We had this conversation a couple of weeks ago about the 5.4 and towing. We all decided -
5.4 - Not enough power.
More towing capacity - bigger engine - meaner gears - HD supercooling pkg -
better yet - new truck with bigger engine.
