paint color

good morning good neighbors. i have a question about paint for my truck. i was rooting around on backroad jack's site and came across the paint colors for my '60 F100 and found one that i might like to use. what i would like to know is would it be possible to get an original color in a more modern quality of paint, or would i have to get paint like the original and treat it somehow to get the quality of the newer paints. does any of this make any sense? i'll be the first to admit that i know little more about paint than that it comes in different colors.

by the way, i think i'll name my truck "Boomer" because i had it for about a year, traded it for a big old table saw and some cash, then saw it for sale about a year later and bought it back. so, i thought Boomer, short for boomerang since it came back to me, would be good.

anyway, thanks for the input.

Ragman,
Paint has changed a lot in 40 years. Modern urethanes are much more durable. But they have a much different appearance to them. Next time you are at a car show, compare an original unrestored paint job to just about any vehicle with a fresh paint job, and you will see what I mean. The urethanes look like 'plastic'.
Some parts of the country you can still get acrylic enamel, which would be the closest in appearance to what was originally on your truck. But it is not as durable.
Depending on which color you choose, the paint jobber will have a mixing formula for your exact code, or else for another code which they call an 'offset'. An offset is another code that is as close as the manufacturer offers. Some 'offsets' are dead on, some are horrible. A good mixer can custom tint the color to get exactly what you want. Some also can scan an example and mix an exact match.
What code are you looking for?
Good Luck!
Brett

the two colors i'm looking at are #11841-academy blue and #42684-holly green. i think these numbers are right. they are kinda hard to read on the website. but, then again, i'm old and my eyes aren't what they used to be.
