What do you guys think about Fords factory license plate holder blocking the turbo intercooler? Obviously, I am sure the engineers know what they are doing, however I don' like the factory look and took it upon myself to build a custom "Tow Hook" License Plate Holder. What do y'all think?
My truck didn't come with a front bracket, and the dealer said they're required by law to provide me one (since front plates are required in my state).
But, I hate front plates, so when they gave me the new bracket I relocated it to a shelf in my garage. I've never been hassled about front plates. In fact, I was pulled over 2 days ago, and he did that say anything about it. Your mileage may vary, but I don't worry about it. If they ask, I'll say it didn't have one when I bought it. Hey, that's not a lie!
I moved mine also, just to be a bit different.. went on the passenger side. I used the stock mounting bracket, just did some cutting of the tabs then screwed it on.
Ford had to keep the license plate away from the intercooler on the previous body style. I assume for cooling. They fixed that problem with the 2015 update.
Not sure I’m a fan of the new location, but if you like it then rock it.
I wish we could get rid of the front plate. Think of the cost savings. I also wonder of it messes up the aero around the front end. But I leave mine in place. A friend of mine is a LEO and likes to pull over cars w/o the front license plate since car thieves often remove it.
The relocation that jeepgod did above blocks the adaptive cruise control radar if you have that feature. The two radar units are located behind the two black plastic rectangles.

I'm pretty sure the ACC thingy is only on the driver side. A few guys on the Raptor forum mounted their plates on the passenger side bumper pad. My truck doesn't have ACC so I mounted my plate on the driver side bumper pad. The Raptor supplement in my owners manual says to remove the front license plate for best off road performance. If that's the case, I want the best performance on or off road. I also owned a 2011 and a 2014 Ecoboost F150 so I don't mind the side mount anyway.
I also bought a new lower grill/bumper pad assembly so I'd have a mint one with no holes drilled in it, just incase I need one someday.

Yes I believe you are right, I don't have that feature. I went that side, since the block plug is driver side, will be mounting that up soon.

I asked my dealer about that when I bought mine and they dropped shipped me a part that replaces one of the covers on the side at no charge. The new part was for holding the plate.

On the 2015-2018 F150s the lower grill and bumper pads are all one piece.
