2005 Excursion 6.0 questions
This forum has already been tremendous help, I appreciate all the knowledge, and help from the members.
Bought a 2005 Excursion with 150 thousand miles on it three years or so ago, 6.0 diesel, It has been great, used it as a vehicle to go to shows, pulling a large trailer, to the tune of another 200 thousand miles, it never gave me a minute trouble.
Serviced it every 5000 miles, with oil and fuel filters, at a local garage, at 340 thousand miles it did start runnning a bit rough, and another excursion came available locally, 2004 exactly like the one we had, white eddie bauer with 180 thousand miles, it was running rough, bought it right. An exhaust pressure sensor and line fixed the rough running, and I have been using it this year for the shows.
We decided to start doing the oil changes in house, instead of the local garage, we changed the oil in the 2005, I took off in it, after about 20 miles it stopped running, after about an hour it started up, I took it back, again it would not start for a couple of hours and then started again. Then it would not start at all, just crank. It has sat for the last few months, fired it up day before yesterday, thought I would take it out and see if I could figure out what was going on with it....it stranded me 20 miles from home, left it in a wal mart parking lot, would not start for anything.
Started looking on the forums for help, found that the dash gauge should show oil pressure when cranked, which it was not, then I realized this really all started when we changed oil, found that I needed to check the oil cap, sure enough we had a NAPA cap on it, with a motorcraft filter, I got an OEM cap, and new filter, cranked it, and not only did the gauge jump up, the thing started.
Since changing it to the OEM oil cap, with the proper filter, it will start cold, although it has a miss when being driven, not noticeable when idling, however when warmed up it will not start. Let it sit for two hours fires right up.
In reading it sounds like this is a High Pressure Oil Pump problem, so here is my question...finally..lol.
I ordered a AutoEnginuity PC set up, should be here Tuesday, What do I need to look at, with this in order to determine what the problem is. Before I take it to a mechanic, I would like to be able to point him in the right direction, at least give him the information gathered from the software. I am not a mechanic, and will not pretend to be one...I just drive em.
Any help is deeply appreciated, this forum has already been an enormous help, just from reading the information on here.
Thank you very much
