Hey guys, long time lurker, and information sponge.

Today my 2005 F250 refused to start after parking it from about a 15 minute drive. Initially when trying to start the truck it would act as if it started with low rpm's and no throttle response and immediately die. It has since ceased even firing and I suspect a fuel or HPO issue since it seems it was using what was left in the lines when I was trying to start it initially. That said, I'm no diesel mechanic so I could be very wrong.

I had a buddy come over with autoenginutiy and we ran a scan on the truck. Here is what I know...

*Batteries were weak, and with a load charge test need to be replaced.
*FICM was getting 48 volts on ignition, and crank, truck won't start so I can't test it at run.
*ICP pressure was WAY low, I don't remember the exact # but it was around 14% if that sounds right.
*IPR was at 100% while trying to start
*Gauge on the dash reads no oil pressure / does not move on crank
*Truck currently cranks over but does not fire
*Glow plugs are stock, but it's over 80 degrees so I don't think this is a detriment to the issue.

I have replaced the ICP and have the IPR ready to go in as soon as the tool gets here tomorrow. I also purchased an O-ring set for the injectors, but didn't have the ICP pressure test tool (it arrives tomorrow as well) to pressurize the HPO rails. I sadly don't have unlimited funds and this is my company truck so every day it's down it costs me more money. Typically I like to figure these things out myself, but I am running around in circles at this point. Hopefully someone on here can give me a hand (seeing as I got 7 stitches in my left one working on the truck yesterday) and help point me in the right direction.

Thanks in advance for any help you can provide, I'll be updating what I learn as we go for future searcher's help.

First, confirm that you are getting oil from the low pressure pump. Remove the oil filter cap and filter. Crank the engine and see how long the oil takes to fill the bowl. It shouldn't take long. If you have oil getting to the bowl then you need to focus on the high pressure system. let us know.

Stupid question, but you're referring to the fuel/oil filter on the top of the intake, right?

It was my pleasure, and upon cranking it quickly filled up with fuel. I hooked up my jump box and initially it fired, and didn't start, but there was definitely combustion. It did this twice before going back to just cranking again. Now whether that is from taking the filter off and filling the bowl with oil, or adding the jump box (which has had zero affect in previous attempts) I don't honestly know.

You probably have a HPO issue. IPR fully open and waiting for pressure. The air test will probably show you where. Save that new IIPR, probably not the issue.

Stand pipe, dummy plugs and STC fitting... my guess.

What is the STC fitting? Sorry, I'm learning, but feeling like Barney style is more my curve at the moment. Should we feel the need to talk about late 60's Mopars, I'll be a wealth of information

I just remembered something as well....

I went and had the oil changed about a week ago, and the tech said something about an aftermarket oil filter cap. After reading up online, I'll be heading to the stealership to pick up a new OEM cap tomorrow. Could this have any impact on my current situation?

Snap to connect... it connects the HPO pump to the branch tubes that feed the oil rails supplying the injectors.

Is that under the valve cover as well?

STC is under the HPOP cover.......get your fishing pole out.

There are worse jobs, if I was a betting man I would say you could easily take care of it.

The cap and filter could very well be your issue. Get an OEM cap and filter back in there

It would help you to watch a few 6.0 repair videos on youtbe. They have good information. The ones done by Diesel tech Ron are the best.

Well, the dealership did right by me, and sold me the cap and new filter for $65 including tax. Sadly installing them did not solve the problem.

That said my new pressure test fitting for the ICP sensor also arrived today, however a massive storm system arrived about the same time, so I guess I'll have to wait to get some pressure in the oil rails. I'll update as soon as I can pressurize them.
