Def tank sensor problem.
500 miles left on def came up today. I topped it off not too long ago and have not had the 1/2 full alert. After message came up i tried to top it off.....it took about 1.25 gallons. Ive read it might clear itself up but it hasn't yet.
Question. Even though my def is not empty will it go into limp mode once the 500 counter gets to zero?

My 2015 has done that on several occasions. Best practice is to not "top off", just fill it when the countdown message is displayed. Apparently, this allows the level sensors to reset. For now, fill it again, should show full in a few minutes of running, then wait to fill it again when the message appears.
Also, once while towing my toy hauler, I had received the 500 mile countdown, and within 118 miles, it was at zero with all the warning lights going off etc. I do not understand why Ford did not give another level gauge in the dash cluster like Ram did.

I have just had your problem, for several fills got the low message but would only take about 2.5 gallons, then last time I filled it op it kept counting down, had to get a new sending unit which took 2 weeks installed 2 days ago and display did not clear kept counting down and went in to limp mode, they busted a fitting on the pump which is being replaced as I am typing.
i strongly recommend that you demand a new sending unit while under warranty.
i was told they have replaced several so yours is not the first.

Having the same issue in my 2015 - second time in a row. I get the 500 mile to walking warning and it only takes around 2 gals. of course this time I was cognizant of the miles I drove since the last top off and it was less tan 1500 miles. I am still under warranty so I am going to bring it in and see what they say...
